Sideshow Collectables recently announced that it has acquired the license for the modern Fly movies, and has placed fantastic-looking 1/6 scale statues of Brundlefly (from David Cronenberg's 1986 Fly remake) and Martinfly (from the 1989 sequel) up for pre-order.

As a HUGE fan of these movies (well, okay...the sequel is more of a guilty pleasure), I do hope that more pieces follow, like a Telepod, or a mini-bust set depicting each stage of Brundlefly's diseased transformation.
I've seen some grumblings that Sideshow shouldn't have wasted its time on a property with a smaller fanbase than the usual stuff like Star Wars or LOTR, but I'm pleased as punch to see the Fly films FINALLY get some high-end collectable lovin'. May the naysayers recieve a healthy dose of vomit-drop!
To my knowledge, there's only been the McFarlane Toys 6" version of Brundlefly, and a Japanese import figure (as well as a Stage 5 Brundle garage kit, said to be sculpted by the same gent who sculpted Sideshow's Martinfly statue). This new statue blows both of those away, although I wonder what reference materials Sideshow has access to, since certain details on the prototype (the length of the "fingers" on the right arm, etc.) look a bit off.
And aside from a garage kit or two, this appears to be the very first licensed replica of Martinfly. Looks awesome!
The Telepod-themed bases are the icing on the cake. I've already pre-ordered Brundlefly. I'm a bit tempted to get Martinfly, but shelf space--and the fact that The Fly II is rather sucky--have warned me off so far. We'll see.
Thoughts?
