sideshow lifesize C3P0 and R2 assembly video

I agree. Too many inaccuracies on both droids to even mention. For that price, they'd better look screen accurate. Just my opinion. Even the electronics were botched. What is made on this very board is 10X better than those.

Dave :)

I agree Dave - and TBH as far as the 3PO's concerned I would have been happy with some inaccuracies so long as the head section was good.

But its not, it just looks wrong to me - those eyes :(

Cheers

i dont know...they look pretty cool to me

i like them based soley on the fact that they are all ready to go, just plug and play...i dont know how many kits and things i've bought over the years that i've never assembled and sold at a loss to fellow forum members...:lol

i think it's cool that Sideshow has that license...having said all this i think they would sell a heckuva lot more of them at about half that price!

i think i remember finding a 1:1 3PO for sale for around $2500-$3000 a year or so ago...not sure what it would cost for a fully done R2???

of course, just my $.02

They are offensively inaccurate at any price, given the dearth of material available to any licensee. At this price point, totally unacceptable.

Anyone who gave this R2 a thought should do themselves a favor and hit up the R2 builders. For the same price or less, you can assemble a MUCH more accurate droid with so many more features. That price can easily get you a droid made from better materials and includes, lights, fully featured sound, and R/C. You'll learn alot more and make some friends along the way...

Well, I like the Sideshow droids myself. I did spend 2 years buying parts through the R2builders club, and spent nearly $5,000 total on a aluminum R2 unit that does light up, but for $5,000 - it has wheels and can roll if I push it, but you'd need another $2000+ more to make it remote controlled and move...and I know a few people who are well over $10,000 already...and yes, its way better than the SS version...but its a nice droid, with accurate lights, and lots, and lots of sounds...just like the 3P0, but I think the 3P0 could have looked more brighter gold plated like the STAR TOURS version, instead of the slightly tarnish brass looking robot...but I still think for those who have $5495 and dont want to do the 1-2 year wait it takes to collect it all through the builders club, and need to have the know how on assembly, this is a fantastic alternative.

You're exactly right if you want an "instant" r2. But you can get all the parts relatively fast if you want to have an accurate resin and pvc droid. You don't have to wait for all the aluminum parts if you don't want to.

The clubs spec parts in other materials are always available. But I'm pretty close to discussion to have a valid opinion. My views are way skewed :lol.

If it's a static droid with lights and sound...I think you can spend WAY less with than 5500 and have the joy of doing it yourself.

But again...it's my opinion and you are certainly welcome and right to have yours!

I have maybe 2500 in my R2.
He still needs another 2k for motors and radios.

Right now, the head randomly turns, and he talks.

Its easy to spend ALOT making an R2, especially if you go the ALL ALUMINUM route. However, you end up with something far too heavy.

Anyhow, the Threepio is OK. Looks kinda MPCish to me.
However the SS R2 Looks like a Giant SUNCOAST VIDEO VINYL TOY.
