Sideshow Grogu wonky head repair

I just thought I’d post this here as I haven’t found any other thread relating to it and there may be others out there that have the same problem that I did.

Grogu’s head. He’s been thumped on the head. Well not really, but when they were making these Grogu statues they didn’t use enough expanding foam and his head looks squished. I’ve noticed it on a few others that have posted their pics up. Once you see it you won’t unsee it and it really starts to bug you. I repaired mine about a year ago and you wouldn’t think it had the wonky head at all. You’ll notice the wonky part of his head in the top pics and the corrected head later.

If you’re feeling up to it and want to try your hand at repairing it, start by removing his robe. You’ll notice that there are some small black screws holding the two plastic halves together. Take those screws out. Once those are out, stick a flat blade screwdriver between the two plastic halves and carefully pry them apart, but only just enough so that the head pops out. There’s no need to separate the two plastic halves completely.

Next, you’ll have to start by digging most of the expanding foam out through the bottom of the neck. I used a small sharp knife and was carefully poking into, then a twisting out the foam. Be careful! You don’t want to poke through his head through to the other side. I removed enough of the foam that let me gain access to the wonky part of his head. You may choose to remove all of the expanding foam though.

This next part will require you to get some boiled water and carefully pour it into the open hole. Again, be careful doing this. Leave the water in there for about 10-15 seconds and get yourself a rounded blunt long stick, or the top of a pencil with the eraser which I used, and start to push the “flat” part out. You’ll immediately start to notice the head coming back to shape.

Remove the hot water and immediately fill the head with cold water. This will immediately make the plastic head keep to the corrected shape that you re-formed it to. You may need to do it a few times to get the shape you want or are happy with.

Once you dry out the inside of the head, just get some more expanding foam and fill it back up. As I still had some expanding foam in mine, it took a lot longer to dry out and refill with some new foam.

I’m happy that I fixed it, and the result speaks for itself. It was an easy fix and didn’t cost me anything other than an existing can of old foam.
