I don't even know how it would open without slicing your hand. It has three joints in the 'legs'. However the Shuriken may look small in the hands of a Pred they are really quite big, if you look at the size of the Shuriken that sliced blondie in two in AVP R, it was massive.
Who knows though that movie was jammed full of continuity errors.
