This was cast from an original mold and electroplated by the same company that did the original Idols back in 1980. This is the one I've been after for so long. It was a very limited and low-key run which was quietly mentioned elsewhere but I figured I could share with all of you here.
Here is a pic of the new Idol (on the left) compared to one of the more common sculpts which is gold plated.
I used to be a big fan of the gold plating for obvious reasons, but now after seeing the electroplating in person, I'm all for it. It's just as lustrious as gold but with a thicker, more yellowish gold color. Much more accurate to the film. Of course, you have to start with an accurate sculpt and this one is by far, the best I've ever seen. Contrary to what some of you would believe, there are no holes in the eyes. A common misconception.
I finally have the Idol I've always wanted. :thumbsup Me...happy.
