Showoff: PKD Custom Part One

I decided to build up my wonderful new Rick Ross Snub and Magnum kits as custom BR Universe guns. I spent a lot of time getting my metal Sidkit blaster as accurate to the Worldcon pics as possible, so I thought I'd have a little fun with these kits.

The Snub is a fantastic design by Rick. Its compact size and sleek curves made me think think that it is something that maybe a lady of LA 2019 might carry as conceal defense, and since Rachael is definiteley going to need protecting at the end of the movie, I figured I'd assign it to her :)

The built-up snub features pearl grips and blue leds replacing the red ones in the ammo chamber. I also added working leds to the custom 'laser pointer'.

I should be starting work on the custom Magnum build-up this week.

Any comments or questions welcome :)

Great work, Simon :thumbsup

So what did you finally settle on for the pearl finish?

Well, I went with your suggestion, Fred :D

I sanded off the diamond pattern, then sprayed them gloss white. I then used a sponge to apply circular 'whorls' of DecoArt White Pearl Dazzling Mettallics. I really like the effect.

Plastikote Pearl Spray should be avoided (expensive and, well, rubbish) as should acrylic pearl (just looks silver).

Nice technique with the swirling. You really captured the look of pearl :thumbsup .

I've only been able to use it on small (interestingly enough, pearl sized) pieces, so getting a true pearl effect has been a challenge.

Nice work--did you ever think of making the whole gun silver?
[/b]

That would be an interesting look, but I've yet to come up with a satisfactory 'polished steel' paintjob to do the piece justice.

The airbrushed Alclad II stuff I've seen generally looks really good, but that's not always an option. I've never found anything out of a rattle can that looked good either. :unsure

Awesome work. I am unfamiliar with this kit, does it have any moving parts ?

Wat?

I'd always assumed she shot Leon with Deckard's blaster. Just goes to show, you learn summink every day... :)

Read my intro again. :)

Interesting blaster. The pearl grips are very cool looking. Are your grips a little off from where they should be? Doesn't seem like they are lined up quite right.
