Hey everyone,

I recently acquired a JB ANH V2 helmet. I love it dearly, it's quickly become one of my, if not my overall, favorite pieces. Here are some pics, it's a lovely lid. Although I do not have any other ANH Vader parts Ill cherish this one forever.

Congrats, Chris. Ya the first helmet is always like the first love :). Nice photos...mind if I throw them on the Vader ref DVD? ;)

I really have to admit that JB knows how to throw together a nice bucket....

I, too, am an owner of a JB...

...however, having been fortunate to spend some time with original DV helmets in the Lucasfilm archives recently, I can tell you the paint job here is ridiculous. The original Vaders have nowhere near this kind of distinction in shades of gray. In fact, without exception, every helmet I examined had far subtler "hits" of gray highlights than I've seen on 99% of helmets here. The two-tone nature of the paint job, while absolutely present on the originals, is far subtler than I ever imagined, and I think appears more dramatic in some references and on film due to myriad photographic anomalies.

It is also possible, that the grey colouration on the original helmets has changed over time (Darkened/lightened) from what they were during filming.

I agree it's just a regular paintjob and not exactly like the original ANH. But any helmet you saw recently in the archives was (almost nearly certainly :) ) not an original ANH anyway...and if you look at Sansweet's Vader helmet the JB is pretty close in terms of shading (yes I know still not like ANH)...and the Paul Allen stunt helmet which is a screen ESB is pretty cut and dry with no subtle hints of grey....

EDIT: actually....it also seems like the helmet was photographed over a very light platform or table...so the lighting will make the greys appear lighter or darker...

So I guess he didn't recast GH's dome after all?

Huh? :confused I don't see how that follows from whatever was posted here? Maybe I missed something?

Hey Mike,
Well aren't you a lucky one, I would love to have touched a real vader helmet, just once. God I am such a nerd :).

Thomas, do you happen to have pics of the Paul Allen helmet?

I have a JB helmet as well, but my dome is satin finished.

It's a beauty. :thumbsup

Not many props have the same WOW factor as a great looking ANH Vader helmet - a worthy addition to your collection.

hey chris , this is an awsome helmet, cant wait till i can afford one. JB does great work. when you showed me yours in person , it was a definite WOW... very nice helmet..

As with most things, it needs to be seen in person to truly appreciate. Great attention to detail and superb craftsmanship, top notch paint job as well. Id like to make the dome a little less glossy, I may consider having JB repaint it at some point or I may do it myself.

Here are a couple of very recent photos I took of mine....
