Show your Dr. Who props!

Mclabop do you have pictures?

Sure do. I was at work at the time so couldn't post it. Here's one, my lighting was horrible. I have to take some better ones.

The cage and the prongs are metal, aluminium I think. The inside has metal at the rear, probably for balance as it has a really good weight distribution for throwing/flipping like the Doctor does. You have to pull the prongs together when closing, that's really my only gripe besides the plastic copper. I understand the plastic copper effect, it'd be too hard to keep it polished and not green... but wish it was possible.

Those are really minor gripes though. I talked to both the designers at comic con. That was fun and they gave a lot of great background as to how the product line came about, how the engineered various parts, and tested the flicking action. Apparently it's good for 10,000 flicks without breaking. Oh, and the FX mode is awesome. It blinks several messages in Morse code when vertically displayed, but you can get it to do all the sounds (which are much louder than the old model) with various gestures.

Looks good! What does the tail end look like? I'm assuming they got rid of the button that was on the tail in the last version?

I don't mind closing the claws before retracting as the actual prop requires the same to close - my only gripe from what I can see is the design of the button. I would have preferred a push button like the actual prop but I can imagine the issues that would cause for a product meant to be used as a device rather than a prop.

There is a push botton on the other side. I didn't show that side since it has my serial number on it...

The tail end does not have a button. Wish it had a USB port becuase it takes AAA batteries.

UPDATE: Note to self, do not leave this prop in a hot car for weeks on end. It now flicks open ridiculously easily. Still holds fine suspended upside down. But crap, it's about a third as sensitive and doesn't 'feel' quite right. Should have taken it back into the house ages ago.

damn damn damn damn

Very good work then! I actually work on the show - I was the graphic designer for S9 - so having seen the real one a lot you're definitely very close!
