shoe lifts

need to give myself a little extra height, i found a website shoelift.com has several sizes, was looking at a 2.5" lift, would that be too much, hurt my feet over a few hours, just using it for a costume for a few hours. What else does anyone else use? thanks

you can get carpet underlay now that is made from similar stuff to inner soles (one tough layer/ one soft.

rather than buy/rebuy to get your size etc you can simply cut this up from small to large starting about 3 quarter length ending as high as you can wear comfortably.

its a bit tougher than inner soles but still comfortable and doesnt sink as much as some lifts ive seen

Well I use three inch lifts w/ a flip flop type of shoe all stuffed in my boot. After a few hours it can be pretty uncomfortable if there isn't a chair around. It all depends on the individual. A friend of mine tried the three inch lifts once and said never again (and he didn't wear them very long). Another option is to have your boots/shoes customized by a cobbler. I've heard that usually works great and I've never heard anyone complain about comfort.

since im 6' 2" naturally, and such. i have regualr costume boots, and use a full 5/8 insole lift, and im also getting a DR. Scholls gell inserts .

the lifts are internal and full insole and the gel inserts are full insole as well. add that to the extra height you get from the dome, and that puts me in the 6' 7" to 8" range.

I bought the 2.5 inch lifts from shoelift.com and i quickly found out that they are unwearable. They are shaped like this.

and as you can see the sharp angle at the top dug into my heel and didn't fit the natural shape of my foot. I couldn't wear them for more than a few minutes before I was in severe pain.
But since i already spent all that money on them I decided i better get some use out of them.
So what I did was cut them in half like and put the bottom on top and the top on bottom like so. No glue or anything, just put them in the boot this way. The gap at the back actually acted like a hinge so they moved with my feet a bit

Then I bought a pair of flip flop sandals from old navy for 5 bucks and put this on top to smooth out the angle and better fit the curve of my feet. (blue layer) Then I added a layer of 1/4 inch foam (grey layer) cut into the shape of the inside of the boot (I used the original boot insert for a template) Finally I put the original insert on top. (excuse the crude diagrams)

It took a while to figure out how to get it all in there as it gets kinda cramped, but if you kinda roll up the toe ends, tuck them in and then roll them back out inside the boot it will go in just fine.
I then went to a cobbler and had extra thick soles added to the boots to give me another 2.5 inches on the outside heel. All in all it gave me 5.5 inches. So, being 6 foot, the boots and the added height of the helmet brought me all the way up to 6'8" with only a 2.5 visible sole and the capes and robe covered that well enough. I never got one single "Frankenvader" comment.
It was very comfortable and I could go all day with minimal sit breaks.

Excellent diagram, thanks for posting it. I use 2 internal lifts with my boots. I never measures my height, but it makes me taller than the troopers in my squad. I am considering adding 1/2 - 1" on the full lenght of the sole. I have heard of Vaders putting 2-3" heels on boots and people not noticing. I am 6ft barefoot, the set up I have likely gives me 3 1/2- 4" extra height under my foot.

I have a funny pic at a troop, a guy that must have been close to 7ft holding his young son by me. I looked short. LOL. He was wookie height.

i wear 1.75" lifts in my fett shoes. the ones i got compress down a lot... i'd say they probably give me an inch and a quarter at most. but they are comfy.

i have the lift in the boot, then an inner sole over the lift to smooth it all out inside.

make sure your shoes are big enough to take the lifts you want to put in.
