Serenity / Firefly atlas

To answer a question that's been sent to me a few times - I don't know when (or if) a Volume 2 will be done. It depends on how Vol 1 does.

That said, I'm entirely open to suggestions for what might be in a Vol 2!

Thoughts?

How about a Browncoats section containing their battle plans, attack routes, mission maps, tactics, etc., from the Unification War?

A further exapnsion of material like this?

I think that's what he means, yeah. It probably took place on a number of planets, so you could do a series of the big planetary conflicts. It'd be interesting to see a sort of planet by planet timeline of the war.

I was thinking you could also do a series that was a greater explanation of the sides at the time when the war started -- how many planets formed the alliance, which planets formed the core of the browncoat movement, any unaligned planets, that sort of thing.

Or more information about the order of terraforming, and how the system first got settled.

That particular map is on page 17 of the Serenity atlas.

I'm casting around for other ideas or concepts that people might want down the road, if we do another. There are some great suggestions earlier in the thread - any other thoughts?

I like the idea of more battle maps and details about the war. Maybe a "weapons of the war" section, too? Details about the alliance and browncoat weapons and uniforms? War propaganda posters, from both sides?

Thanks! Good ideas, all.

What about the mix of planet info / maps / tech / misc bits? Does the current one have too much of one thing, not enough of another?

How about schematics/info about the air/ground vehicles used in the war, and maybe some small/medium arms. I know they show a few quick glimpses of them in the series.

Maybe a display of rank structure/insignia on both sides.

How about a couple of pages from the Blue Sun catalog.

Maybe insignia from other freightlines, passenger lines, independants, etc.

Maybe a page or two from newspapers from the remote colonies.

Product Insignia ie: food, weapons, gear, medical supplies, etc.

Information on other companies/conglomerates in the verse.

Ads for things like Bellerephon Estates, Serenity Valley National Park, private security companies, etc.

Okay, I think that's enough for now:).Apologies if I mentioned things already listed.

Love the ideas. I especially like the ideas of a couple pages of ads at the back.

What about planets? Any specific planets that people would want to see covered?

As someone from the UK I'd be interested in a little info on where Badger was from, seeing as it was instantly recognisable just from his accent.
(If that's already covered in the earlier books just say so, they're on my 'must buy' list anyway)

We had considered putting info in on the Dyton colony (Badger's home), but it didn't make it. Good to know it's wanted!

Well I can't be the only Brit that wants to know where our lot ended up in the 'verse! Now I'm wondering if Dyton has other British accents, or if cockney is to us what western patois is to the America of the future.

I'd actually love to see how many cultures survived the long flight to the new system with their identities intact. Obviously American and Chinese cultures survived, but how many others survived and kept their core intact. I know that's delving waaay deep into a fictional jaunt, but as an example, we see how the whole show is old west meets space (which I adore mind you). But were/are there any settlements that are strictly Native American? Hispanic? Inuit or Hawai'n etc? I think it would be a fascinating addition to the mythos of the 'Verse.

I'd also love to here more about Londinium, if it hasn't been published yet. I have not had a chance to order the Atlas :( OH! and how 'bout a write up on major crime organizations and the planets they operate on and why those planets are used. Would also like to see more of the group that was cloning organs. was it government or private? Also how do the currency conversion rates in the 'Verse work?

sorry, this is all just popping in my head now...

This may have been covered, but what about Earth that Was, I wouldn't mind seeing more info on events leading up to the exodus. Does it still exist? Is it still inhabited? Has anyone ever travelled back to it? Did anyone choose to stay behind? Has there ever been any contact between the systems?

There may not be alot of interest for this, but I'm a real history buff. I like knowing the back story/history of things ie: planets, characters, battles, companies, the exodus, etc. It helps me enjoy the verse a lot more knowing it's history.

I know the planet on the 'Earth That Was' whisky looks dead and more like Mars. Maybe that's a clue as to what it ended up like?

there was a write up on either qmx's site or firefly shipworks or somewhere else that had the history of the verse. stuff that lead up to the exodus and what happened after. there was a signal coming from earth for a while, but when it stopped, it was assumed that everyone either died or just didn't know how to work it anymore. No one has been back to because of the huge travel time to get there which is something ridiculous like a hundred years or so.

I did think of more stuff though, what is the difference between an alliance soldier, a fed, a sheriff? What different Agencies actually work within the Alliance?

licensing difficulties aside, how about explaining the Star Wars easter eggs? What company actually produces the lamda class shuttle and the medium cargo ship? what are there roles in the 'Verse? Hell, since a Firefly showed up in BSG, could any of their ships make it across to dimension door too? A mark 2 viper would fit in a firefly's hold i think ;)

what kind of high end tech does the alliance or a more privileged citizen have access too? and what the heck was the full function of Dobson's device? was it like a hand held pc or just a cell phone, LOL?

OH and I'd love to know where this planet is where they juggled geese. Goslings. they were juggled! but where?

EDIT: here is the link for the verse in numbers which has the timeline mentioned above: http://www.fireflyshipworks.com/2009/03/the-verse-in-numbers-white-paper-updated/

I'll get back to new atlas idea shortly, but I thought this might be of interest...

I was archiving some stuff, and I just came across the signed crew roster from my own copy of my Serenity ship papers: http://bit.ly/b94OWY .
