Sebulba's pod racer

Hey folks,

I've been commissioned to enhance the Sebulba's pod racer and the Hailfire Droid made by Hasbro.

Ive started with the pod racer.

Here's the first pics :

First I had to reshape the cans of both side of the cockpit to get a more conical shape.
Left side done.

The original shape :

I did cut the engine area, save the engine itself and redid all the other details (I have some more details to add ;) ).

A shot of the rear cans :

I did the laser guns which were not on the toy.

Then I sprayed a first coat of white (because the base color is orange ;) ) primer to see all the flaw. Some dust to remove and some more details to add :)

I didnt remove the little hatches, I just sanded them down to get sharp edges :

That's all for now !

That's fantastic, especially considering that you're using X-Wing blueprints to make it. :)

Great work!

Lol thanks :) It's incredible to believe but those blueprints helped me a lot for the pod ! J/K :lol Actually I'm working on a SS Hero X-Wing, that's why I drawn those blueprints. :)

Definatly a project I've always wanted to finish!! Still sitting in it's box from the move . . .:cry

If your going movie accurate though, be sure that you get the Micro Fleet pod for the regular toy engines. Should work out to 1/24 scale. definatly watching this thread! Amazing work so far!!!!

Looks great so far. Obviously a whole lot of work, but the results look like they are going to be spectacular.

Tox - Drop me your email address and I'll send you about 15-20 hi-res photos of the ILM physical mock up that they did for Sebulbas racer... I tool them at the Myth meets Imagination exhibit at the Franklin Institute a couple of months ago - I've got pretty darn good coverage of the whol thing... Just the kind of stuff you need if your "accurizing" ;)

The pod section on the studio scale one was made from a A-10 attack aircraft.. the body is turned around backwards and the engines are the big tub thingys on the side... maybe a 1/48 or 1/72 scale one would match your build.

Very nice Julien ...really looking forward to seeing progresses on this :love.. BTW Does anybody have good ref pics of the inside of the cockpit? I found this side view that shows there are 2 antennas on each side of S's seat..

I might have good reference I'll need to check my pics when I get home... I'll send myself a note to try adn remember ;)

Neat, I didnt even realize there was a market to 'fix' vehicles lol. I used to do that a lot in the 90s... I wasnt happy with the Jurassic park stuff , lol.

Also fun, is turning your cousin's Barbie jeep into a Jurassic Park ranger jeep.

Many thanks for the support guys. That's not very easy because of the plastic. Hard to sand, hard to cut, very smelly (huge headaches). No update until next week cuz I'm ill right now and I cant move from my bed. Thanks Frank for your help, once again (after the ISD ;p) your ref pics will be a great help, cant wait to see them !

Steve, you're right, good eye, they probably used one of the many large R/C A-10 kits available to save some time ! Or maybe not ;) Anyway I checked my 1/32 A-10 and after some maths, the 1/48 is the better way to go but still not the accurate size so I will go with the reshaped engines I did !

I had the Jurassic Park LandRover made by Kenner I believe !

Took these shots at the original exhibition, perhaps they could help you.
If you need high res pics, let me know

Hey Bromer,

Many thanks for the pics they are great ! I think they are big enough right to work with !

Would like to thank Jedi Dade for the pics he sent me :)

I worked back on the pod today.

Today's work was to cut the handler then fill the holes, remove the side boxes of the main engines. I will redo them from scratch to a better look (one of them could be opened to show a rotating saw, this feature is removed). This night I will fill all the screw holes of the engines. Not an easy task because there are a lot of pipings all around. Once Im done with all this prep, I will be able to start to detail the engine, extra pipings, small connectors, boxes etc... So I'll move on the large intakes, not so much work on them, mainly the rear grids to redo (they are stickers).

No pics right now cuz it's not very interesting lol

Hey guys,

Come new pics :)

Here's the original parts :

I cut the handler :

spr15.jpg

Then, after several try, I found the best way to fill the huge gap. I try to do it the best I can, it should be nice after sanding :) By the way there will be a lot of pipes on it :)

spr16.jpg

I redo the rear of the engines, they look more accurate IMHO, what do you think ?

spr17.jpg

I filled the holes for the cables because they were at the wrong place. I will drill new holes, put brass tubings to later insert the cables into them.

Looks great,
Good move to cut it, it´s gonna look so much better.
Looking forward to see the next step.

Thanks Bromer !

Actually the model will be supported by 3 rods. One for the pod and one for each of the big engines. I will not use the original cable which link the pod to the engines (now they are useless since I will moved the holes on the pod), but if I can do it strong enough to support the weight of the pod, I could just go with 2 rods (one per engines). But I dont know yet cuz I was planning to use guitar bass strings to do them, which replicate perfectly the original... And of course they are not strong...

the engines definitely look more spot on(y)thumbsup... maybe the kit parts should be pushed a little bit further inside the turbine if the toy structure allows it IMHO :confused
