Got a few questions on the ol' "clamshell" pistol...

1. The main pistol - do we ever see it being reloaded (somehow) or broken down for cleaning on screen?
Is there ever a canon mention of its capacity, what it fires, etc?
Which way is which on the "safety" lever?

2. The underslung whatsitthing - do we ever see it opened for loading?
How is it fired - does it use the same trigger with a selector somehow? Or a second "trigger" somewhere, say under that shroud forward of the main trigger?

I realize the answer to a lot of these questions is prolly "movie magic, we never see it" - but if there are any "canon" answers (or better yet, illustrations) I'd like to see 'em. :)

Thanks.

Straight from the prop master's mouth

We never see them reload the clamshell on the show. As to the grenade launcher, it seems pretty straightforward given the episode where they all went hunting for ammo when the Cylons infiltrated the ship. Seems like the rockets just insert into the barrel ALA standard muzzleloader. They never explained how the bottom part is triggered to my knowledge.

In that same episode (Season 2.0, Valley of Darkness) we see Dualla reach over and set safety after Billy stuffs the pistol in the waste band of his pants. I haven't watched that episode in quite some time, but I believe she moves the switch to the up position.

Thanks all.

Hrmm... I'm thinking I might need to get me some DVDs. :)

Looking at the thing again, "up" makes sense.

I know nothing actually moves on the prop, but the serrations at the rear of the body imply something that's pulled back, like a slide. The long groove ahead of the switch would allow it to reciprocate were the switch in the "paralell to the barrel" position, but not in the "rotated down" position. Sort of like how a 1911 safety locks the slide in the "up" position.

Hrmm.. Now I'm thinking this thing might be interesting to see how a "real" one would work.

Perhaps a cassette of caseless rounds loaded somewhere?
