SDS Vader helmet

Always been curious about this one, and finally managed to see one in the flesh (albeit behind a Perspex case) and was very disappointed!

Very poor quality, minimal sharp lines and the paint job was atrocious. Please feel free to comment if you have any opinions. (Forgive the poor images, taken with iPhone).

Re: SDS Vader helmet opinions??

Thanks for sharing this. I agree with your assessment.

The dark lord from the Dork Lord himself! :sick

This was next to their Luke ANH X-Wing and their supposed Hero Stormtrooper and all were very disappointing.

The worst thing about it was, most of the folk in the shopping centre were swooning around these and must have thought this is as good as it gets!

I totally get that. Some people get caught up with the celebrity magic. All they need to do is review the lawsuit and his performance in the depositions.

I posted an pic highlighting the SDS stormtrooper helmet warpage a few years back. For something that supposedly came from the "original mold" I can't figure out a reason why it looks messed up.

I wonder what he says about the origins of his Vader!

The worrying thing was is that this was a high end department store and these were situated right where the merchandise was for the TFA, and they were being marketed as genuine official products.

There was lots of 'wows' and 'oohs' with people swooning around the displays. They even had two mannequins kitted out in their battle spec armour. Even the other half thought the Vader was terrible and that's saying something as she knows nowt about the subject lol.

Does anyone know where these helmets originate? Is this guy claiming they are from direct lineage?

He sort of flirts with suggesting they're original. Here's a quote from the website "Originally made by the film studios for A New Hope, Shepperton Design Studios can now offer you this fully wearable replica of the Dark Lord"

The rest of the time the text mainly says that he was involved with the original production, and leaves you to fill in the blanks. He's worded it very cleverly, I'll give him that. It leads you to believe it's original without actually saying so.

Believe it or not Paul this was in Fenwicks :confused. There was even catalogues showing the full range.

You need to get yourself up to have a chuckle :lol

I'm not defending sds on his fabrication on the sculpting of these tks, but the truth with regard to selling is that within the UK and Europe he is fully entitled, the courts ruled in his favor. It's no different to Heinz selling beans in tesco, asda or anywhere else, providing the store wants to sell it. I suspect the store set it up in the Disney area and unless sds is stamping his catalogues and wares with Disney then they cannot do anything as it's not illegal, any misinterpretation would be aimed at the store and most stores can stack their wares as they like. When Lucas sold the rights to Disney the stormtrooper image ownership as a prop, within Europe and UK had already been ruled in Ainsworth favour. I agree ainsworth has told lies, but accusations over nothing just water down the legitimate arguments

Agreed, the vader looks crap and he has no official argument on that front, however I suspect another court case would most likely come with the same outcome as the previous ruling set a precident

Thanks for the reply. I more so created this thread to discuss the quality and accuracy of the Helmet in question, not to get into a discussion about legal battles etc...but that is interesting to hear. I have read about this before, but have never seen any of the Props from this seller up close. Now I have and I am disappointed.

Oh dear indeed. That's one UUUUUGLY motherf...

Mannequin is too tall. Had the same issue on my old GF armor on a standard fashion mannequin.

That stormtrooper looks off. The gap in the knee area is too much.

I am not a Vader expert by any means but WOW that looks bad... isnt the lid way too small for the mask? In some shots looks too tall as well. But like I said, I am no expert, just go by the heart :)

SDS costumes are available via Amazon now ...

Seen them.

Looks like they're really going for it.

Like a mentioned above a lot of people will think these are as good as it gets. I'm sure some people will be more than happy, but when you see that he is charging £1000 for the Vader with the Chest Armour you have to feel sorry for anyone investing in these.
