I think they look great. I really love the "down visor" version of the Rebel Helmet (love the name usage too...brass balls...:p). And honestly the Star Commander looks better than the one on the screen.

A "Friend" of mine owns a Tie Helmet from SDS and I was not to happy with the quality. The helmets that they have added all look sharp, especially the Star Commander. I would be tempted to buy another but it just worries me paying that much when some one here on the forum could do a better job.

The only thing that I see as special about SDS' RFT helmet is that the com box on the side of the helmet is made from accurate molds. It has the three dots around the screw head that most fan-made helmets lack.

However, SDS's helmet is not trimmed or put together more accurately than what is already out there.
This helmet has visible screw holes where the original had none.
For instance, it has a screw hole for the chin strap on the right side. The chin straps on the screen-used helmets were attached to the right bolt (or pop rivet) that holds the cowl on. These screw holes are also supposed to be further forward.

I think that except for the com box, SC's helmet is just as good, or better. SC's also has a smoked acrylic visor that you can actually swap between the up and down position on the same helmet, you don't need to buy different helmets for that.

i agree i also have one of SC's Helmets as you can see from my web site and there is no difference in my opinion.

Also considering these are supposedly made by the original maker you would have thought he would have got the colour right :lol

Thier Item discription says............ Acrylic capped white ABS

But the originals were like a Dove White which is more grey this can clearly be seen in the HD version of ANH.

anyone gonna screen cap one ;)

I like SDS products. I don't have any complaints about anything I have bought previously from SDS.

I haven't had much time to study his newer products but they look the same as the SDS 1976 pre-production photographs at first glance. Unsure if that will make them accurate to the screen seen pieces.

No doubt these new pieces will be scrutinised and picked to pieces as per usual. That isn't a bad thing :)

As I say the newer helmets look really good but some more comparison photos would tell more on the accuarcy front.

Damn...it's been awhile since we've had a rock 'em, sock 'em SDS thread. Let 'er rip.

Oh well fuel for the fire :lol SDS lodged a counterclaim against LFL I think three weeks ago I cannot believe this hasn't been mentioned on the forum yet as this information was passed out by SDS a couple of weeks ago.

This is a quote from an SDS email.

SDS Quote from customer support email :

Litigation with Lucas Film Licensing.

Following the DEFAULT judgemnet obtained by Lucas against us, in a small district court in LA , we
have now successfully brought the case to the UK High Court, where we have entered a counterclaim
against Lucas. We are claiming our Intellectual Property rights for the characters and councel`s opinion
is that we should win the caseÂ… Watch this spaceÂ…..

We thank you for your support so far, and we look forward to continuing and expanding the SDS

Food for thought indeed.

Cheers Chris.

I really like the look of the Imperial Trooper 'Cheese Grater' Helmet :thumbsup

Dunno if it's accurate or made from the original moulds etc. etc. but it certainly looks the part...

Cheeers,
John

I've never owned an SDS product (because he doesn't make Vader stuff and that's all I collect) but from all the pics I have seen and from all the people I've spoken to who own his stuff it looks great.

In all honesty, this is one helmet that has been screaming to be made.

As far as I know, the only other replica is the Altmanns one, but is undersized.

From the pics, it looks superb. Just need a few more Ebay sales, and I'll be placing my order for one.

I am still happy with the SDS products I have, even after all the controversy. Not too sure on the

accuracy of this new set of helmets, but the Death Star Gunner certainly looks choice.

I liked the DS Guard, looks huge - never really seen any decent shots of the originals so its hard to tell how accurate it is. However from what I have seen it looks nice. AFAIK some of the originals had the top "skirt" overlapping the bottom, but some had the bottom overlapping the top so I suppose anycould be viewed as correct.

The DS Gunner looks great - shame it hasnt got the Imperial Logo but I suppose we can all guess why.

Also like the Rebel Fleet. Colour wise the originals were a dull light grey but everyones perception of these helmets is that they were shiny white (like the toys, computer games etc.) so I suppose he opted for what he thought people wanted.

Darth Lars - all the originals had screw tops showing - as per the ears on the stormtrooper.

Cheers

Jez

Since you brought up the whole AA vs. LFL thing....I find it quite interesting that all pictures of the Tie Pilot helmets with the Imperial Logo decals have magically been removed from all the helmets, and the line that used to be on the SDS site: Decals copied directly from the original 1976 mini set, is now gone as well...

Is this SDS doing a CYA due to the case? Just my 2cents....

I really would like to buy his Star Commander helmet. My only queston is due to the court case would USA customs confiscate his stuff upon entry in the country?

So which Death Star Trooper helmet is that? Is it a pre-production? Seems to vary in several subtle but big ways from the ANH movie version.

Thanks. bells for a 5 alarm fire went off in the staff forum. Sprinkler system kicked in. I'm soaked and gonna be deaf for a week.:lol BUT I"M AWAKE NOW.

my personal feeling is, until the court case is settled regarding the Stormtrooper issue its a bit of a cheek adding extra products to sell when you havent actually got the rights.

still there are bills to pay i guess
