I take it the black thing on top is the 'switch' just seems a stupid place to have it.

I wonder why its not the same as the prop, with the normal slider, as the version in season 4 is very good, since the slider slot is really narrow, and the slider itself is nice and discrete.

do you press this switch and it then fully extends up, or do you have sume sort of control over how far it extends. how does it retract as well?

i know it maens no slots into the casing but it still seems odd, if u r going to have that function, why not place the switch near the top as it would be easier to operate.

any mention of sound or lights?
btw thanks for posting the pictures :)

:love I so want the Cyberman, Davros and the sonics!!! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup God I hope they don't cost $1000 a pop :cry

I definitely want the sonic, but that emitter look an awful lot like cheap plastic. And the yellow color of the handle and widely spaced crackling doesn't do anything for me either. Maybe they'll fix those little details on a final release version.

I am very excited about the Sonic Screwdriver and maybe the Laser screwdriver as well. I will be buying these ASAP.
I can't wait till they come out.

The emitter looks like milled aluminum...hows it look plastic Risu?

The paint scheme is something I HOPE was only for show...I quiite like the small cracks...but I mean we can always repaint it.

Colour is...well it looks alot like the colour in the Turn Left episode:

4x11-TurnLeft-00251.jpg

or similar.

As for the slider...maybe they wanted to make it look more timelordy?

I can not wait for this one!!!! :love

I wonder if the lighting is making it look like that (although it does look sort of chalky though instead of ceramic). Calling someone at Comic Con, did it look correct in person?

Here is where it looks different. If that IS metal and looks different as a result of the milling, will it be possible for us to polish it up ourselves to look more accurate? After seeing that last picture I realized that this is a repro of the season 4 sonic, I'd always looked at season 2 stills when designing mine. So the ridges in the handle are actually S4A, not ridiculously wide. The slider issue doesn't really bother me, in a lot of shots I've seen, there's no slider on certain props at all. I'm a huge fan of the yellow wires, I was going to do that on mine. Even if this thing doesn't light up and make sound (and there's no reason it shouldn't) I'll probably go in and add them myself. I'll file out the innards by hand if I have to. Since this is made by the same people that now do the MR lightsabers, do you suppose we can hope for a $100-150 price tag? I mean, the thing is less than 1/4 the size of a lightsaber, and it won't require that huge plastic rod that lights up. I think that's a reasonable price.

Well it is a engineering prototype. I hope it will be polished myself. Milling metal usually makes a rougher side, I have a few sabers that show this.

The ribs as well...I know they were thinner before but the paint may be making it look thinner as well.

As for the slider, they usually go out of their way not to show it, even with how David holds it.

I see no reason why it will not at LEAST light up. The sound issue was addressed by CO before based on size...so heres hoping either way, being this new pop open version I wonder where they would put the electronics.

As far as I know this is a co-operation with eFX and MFX, making it not done by specfically those that made the MR sabers...so price range..I wager will be in the $200 price range...but I do not know...just a hope!

Wow, I am not too far of with the screwdriver that I made.
It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing how close I came to nailing this thing, even though I didn't have the resources that the company has.

Is this the feeling that most of you guys get when you make something yourself?

:D

If I could find the space to fit the sound chip from the toy into my design, then I'm sure they can too. And I'm a little out of the loop on all this, but didn't eFX take over the MR sabers? If they didn't raise the price doesn't that suggest these will reflect the same pricing as MR? eFX will be the company selling these to the US, correct?

It's never too late to start. I just started watching this year and I've already seen the whole new series and about 8 seasons of the classic series. Then again, I have way too much free time.

Whats the automatic opening switch for :confused

whats the point if its not on the prop, does this mean its not a manually extended and retracted by a finger slider?

u got any pics or a video clip of this functionality?

I was told that the filming people want an automatic one to use for the show rather than having the finger slider. I got the impression this is what it will look like.
I was also told these measurements are taken exactly from the filming prop.

I have to say that the sonic is 100% series 4 accurate in shape if not in color. I do still want one so much. I have waited for years for an accurate metal Sonic Screwdriver.
I combined the 2 pics into one and you can see what I mean.

Here's a few pics I've got. I think I remember being told that the paint job will be different and closer to the original.

Here's a few more at the EFX booth. They also had an original Cylon helmet and an original Viper Pilot helmet.

That is absolutely beautiful, the hi-res pic shows more crackle detail. Can anybody say for sure that the handle is painted? In my design I was going to use an acrylic pen blank for the handle that looked like cracked marble, could this possibly be the same? I'm not a huge fan of paint.

As for completely season 4 accurate, I'm going to scan through the whole season now and check on the color of the handle, because the yellow still doesn't look good to me. If I see it in the show though, I'll have no choice but for it to grow on me. In any case, I'll definitely be buying one of these. A complete Magnoli costume wouldn't be complete without it.

With my flash and the lighting available, the color isn't dead on so don't use my pics as a perfect reference.
