SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

No Jack, I saw those posts ... You just keep comenting on how great yours will be, I thought you might want to share the graphics for your plaque ...

:p

And I will... eventually! ;)

Of course, I still haven't finalized the design. I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want it to mention the edition size of 500 pieces. So even if I DID post the sample I have of the graphics, the final plaque might end up looking a little different, anyway. ;)
Got mine back quickly, I see that they swapped the head out, and used the same body. I noticed as there was a flaw on the end of the acrylic tube where it connects with the silver end, like a bit of super glue marred it, so I began to look closer and saw that the head was a different one, there is a little tarnishing on one side. HOWEVER, the head is BETTER! When I say that, I mean, the first one was sitting in an awkward position, where the one of the four 'ribs-bars' was sitting right in a straight line with the slider slot, instead of having the 'hole' in line with the slider and the 'bars' on each end. If that description makes any sense?
I think it makes sense to me, but let's see some PICS! That'll make it clearer! :):thumbsup

BTW, glad to hear it's back and working fine. :cool
Guess what.... :confused
CHICKEN BUTT! :lol

Guess why? ;)

You both lose. It's deader than a dead dog's bone buried down a blind alley off a dead-end street in a ghost town. lol! Only depressed it about a dozen times upon reciept (the second one) and then I placed it in my case. That was a while ago. Picked it up last night and the light starts to flitter. Then it died.

NMR, what did they finally do to yours to get it to work? I noticed the spring on mine stayed in a depressed state when I removed the batteries, but I got it to pop back out. Still nothing. I even replaced the batteries again and no results.

They sent me a new one! Seriously. Same body, new slider and head. I guess the one I had sent them will be redone at some point and put on a new body for the future.

There were several tells to me, especially since I had fine toothed this thing. The new one, though, has fired up over 500 times, has been in my pocket all day today, and NO problems at all.

Funny thing, EVERY time it lights up, I completely forget it doesn't have sound!

Today I got a bil from FedEx for duties, fees, etc... for returning the first one. It never ends...

I have to open a dispute with FedEx for double taxing me...

up to you to return it, but its too bad really, I mean they are willing to fix it.

Mine went back twice as well. When I got the 'second' one back and it died after 10 times, I was feeling like a refund as well. Then I sat and thought about it, I would be LOSING money on a refund. Customs fee's import taxes, not to mention the finance charges from the credit card. All and all I would have paid about $40.00 NOT to have a sonic. That plus the fact I really wanted one made me give them one more shot. I sent the sonic back last Monday, it got to MFX Wednesday, they FIXED it and put it back in the mail the SAME day. Got it Friday and it's been PERFECT! So glad I rode the waves and stuck with it.

due to not being a member at the time when the sonics were being shipped out - I believe I was one of the earliest people to receive one. Living in the UK at the time - the sonic got to me fast. after opening and pressing the button 10 or so times the LED went. Sent it back for repair. Got it back pressed it 30 or so more times - light went. sent it back 1st class and when I recieved it super fast - next day delivery - it worked fine! it has been working well ever since - only now are the batteries starting to go flat. Ignoring a certain persons comments and reviews shunting MFX for their inaccuracies - I have to say that No one could have made a more accurate sonic.
There are NO inaccuracies.
some have compared the mfx sonic to the visual dictionary image - this image is a series 3 sonic - the images for one are blown up out of proportion. Another sonic was made for series 4

First off: Welcome to the RPF!

Secondly, I'm glad to hear that you got over the "speed bumps" and have a sonic that works flawlessly now! :cool:thumbsup

I really should pull mine out and play with it some more, to make absolutely sure it isn't faulty, but I'm still afraid I'll jinx my good luck and find that it IS defective, after all. :unsure

Thanks, every time I go to press it - I hope that it will light up and it does
note:if light starts to flicker (mine did with excessive - everyday use of sonic) I find changing the order the batteries go in e.g.put the one that you put in last -first! the lights go back to normal - then again I'm pushing it to the max, and really need new batteries - and with all luck - the lights will continue to work perfectly!:confused
In time will purchase or make display case - with info - museum quality!:lol

Anyone notice that in The waters of Mars, Tennant was using the older season two version with the big slider and black switch.

Nope, haven't seen Waters yet... but why are they still using that old piece of junk? I thought the whole point of designing and building the newer versions of the prop was to retire the old ones that they had a lot of problems with? :confused

Yeah, strange that. Knowing how easy it is to activate the light on the new version, this must be a pain when he's flipping it and pocketing it, so maybe they reverted back to the old design for these shots and the new one for close ups. The new design switch seems perfect for close up activation pics where all he has to do is squeeze his hand rather than press a button.

thats strange - watching Waters - which I paused tot he exact moment he used the sonic - and had shown it to Adelaide, the buttonis the proper series 4 sonic - not the black button

I did too. He never extends the neck either. Also in the Sarah Jane adventures he uses the old sonic as well. May be that the series four is already on a shelf at RTD's house and not available any more.

I also wonder how many sonics David Tennant bought from MFX. Hey Neill, do you have David's address? :lol

Tennant is a big fan, I bet he must have kept at least one. I bet that is where the season four sonic is (and a good home for it).

I can just see the director on last day of shooting,

"Hey where did g**-***n police box go!!!!!!"

:)~

When he left the set for the last time Tennant was given a box full of his props including the glasses and sonic.
