SDCC08 - Dr WHO Replicas!

Mine should be back in a couple more hours. It got held up in the UK for a day. Seems it missed the cut off for next day by an hour. Oh well. What impressed me the most about it, is that I shipped it back on Monday, MFX got it Wednesday, fixed it, sent it back out THAT SAME DAY! And here we are getting it back on Friday. I'll be playing (Um, product evaluating) with it all day! Let's see what the folks at Walmart do when I (obviously) 'covertly' pull it out and "sonic" the paint department! :love

Thanks for the airdate!!

Most definitely not in the US, but that's what the internet is for! Yay internet!

The next special, Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars airs on BBC AMERICA, Saturday December 19, 9:00pm ET/PT

SWEET! I think my local TV provider just started carrying BCC-A in HD too.

Ah, it's a truly fantastic time to be a Who Fan. :)

Got my sonic back today. So far I've fired it up over 300 times (200 that I counted off) and no problemos. Although MFX failed to add setting 2035 so now I have all this cut barbed wire that I still can't mend! :lol

Neill and all at MFX are the bombs! (That's a very American expression)

Thank you one and all.

I always thought it was "da bombz!" ;)

Anyway, glad everything's working well for you. Guess I'll have to play with mine a little more just to make sure. I hope I'm in the 80% or so that didn't receive a defective one. *knocks on wood*

Have got mine back too, it works like a dream- kudos to MFX for producing such a fine replica, and for such fantastic customer service!

While I'm here, I'd just like to say that there's no way that the emitter could be a machined down die casting- the cost of setting up an aluminium casting, before CNCing it down, would be huge, so, based purely on economics, it must be a completely CNC'd piece!

That and Neil says it's not a casting.

;)

PS: needs a display case, I'll make one like the Baker Sonic's from PE, I've still got half a meter of the acrylic tube from the prototype...

*Is jealous now*

Oh well, my display choice looks good, and will look even BETTER once I add the custom-made plaque I'm going to order! :)

I've already shown the display case I'm using and have explained what it is, but there's nothing custom about it! Sounds like someone skipped over post # 696 of this thread! :p

The only thing custom on it is going to be the plaque that I'm ordering from GAITORBAIT9696, who has a long-running thread in the Junkyard all about his custom plaques. I've come up with my own design idea for 2 matching custom plaques (one for the MFX version of the 10th Doctor's sonic, and one for russrep's version of the 4th Doctor's sonic) and I'm keeping the design(s) to myself until I receive them from him in a couple months, (I won't be finalizing the order until after Christmas) at which point I'll show them off for everyone. :cool

But if you want to get in on a run of multiple identical plaques, Howard has already offered to do a run. He just posted that back in post # 804 of this thread. Check it out. Also read the couple posts after it, as some suggestions have been made for changes to the initial mock-up. :cool

No Jack, I saw those posts ... You just keep comenting on how great yours will be, I thought you might want to share the graphics for your plaque ...

:p

Got mine back quickly, I see that they swapped the head out, and used the same body. I noticed as there was a flaw on the end of the acrylic tube where it connects with the silver end, like a bit of super glue marred it, so I began to look closer and saw that the head was a different one, there is a little tarnishing on one side. HOWEVER, the head is BETTER! When I say that, I mean, the first one was sitting in an awkward position, where the one of the four 'ribs-bars' was sitting right in a straight line with the slider slot, instead of having the 'hole' in line with the slider and the 'bars' on each end. If that description makes any sense?
Anyway, LOVE it. I do need to polish the metal though as the head looks a little tarnished. Anyone have any suggestions for a good metal polish that won't take away any detail? Thanks.
