Ok, so after your overwhelming replies to buy the Hero prop, and months of thinking about it, i finally bought the screen used hero today.

Should be here early next week when i will reveal all.

It's not a star wars prop, or any really major league holy grail prop, however what i will say is that, it is from one of my all time favorite movies, and has a good amount of screen time, used by the main actor.

So this is my holy grail, my first screen used prop, and no doubt my last due to the money spent on it.

I bet the anticipation is killing you all!!!!

Hello All,

Ok so i have a dilemea, which i need your help with.

I've had my eye on a certain screen used hero prop for some time now, which i dont want to disclose at this time, but lets just say you will not be dissapointed, however i've never been able to afford it. I've also got a list as long as my arm for wanted replicas and collectables.

Do i go for.......

A. Screen used hero prop

or

B. Buy most of the replicas and collectables on my list for the same amount.

I found that the more I got into screen accurate replicas, the more I wanted an original prop. This appears to happen to quite a few people in this community.

My vote is for screen used hero.

Screen used, baby! You'll kick yourself later for not picking it up if you have the chance and most likely all the replicas will still be around anyways.

For me, if given the choice I would trade my entire collection of lightsaber replicas for a screen used hero, almost irregardless of character.

As an owner of many HERO props, I don't regret owning them, except maybe the soon to be wife isn't happy when I spend the big bucko's
So my answer is the HERO

Screen used hero has obvious appeal.

- the piece will be "significant" in an easily understood sense. (wow look! You can see it in scene 34!)

- it makes you powerful and respected among collectors. (I own the original Maltese Falcon. Bow down before me!)

But then there are disadvantages.

- the price you'll pay, as you have noted, is all out of proportion to what you'd imagine it's "worth" (this chair costs a quarter of a million, just because William Shatner parked his butt in it?!?)

- owning a rare screenused prop is a responsibility, like owning fine art (Jeeves, have you checked the nitrogen pressure in the Leia Slave Girl Display Case today?)

- proving the authenticity of a "screenused" prop can be nigh impossible. (but... the man said James Earl Jones himself wore this Vader helmet!)

- non-obsessives will not appreciate the significance. (I'm sorry honey, which show did you say this was from again?)

Frankly, I've gone the other way from most on the board... I have a ton of replicas and few screnused. That makes my collection "worthless", in the eyes of "real" collectors. And yet I have been able to afford many pieces which are identical to, or at least visually similar to, what was seen on screen, for much much less money.

I can rarely afford screen used pieces but I have a couple and I love them. Most of my collection are replicas and while I do enjoy them, nothing compares to having a screen used in my opinion, even something as simple as a press pass from X-men 3. But like someone else pointed out, the money invested in a screen used pieces can make it a very hard decision. I'd still go with a screen used though.

I've always dug the small (even-super-small) high quality meaningful prop collections to the vast, disjointedly-diverse and crappier huge collections.
I say...get that Hero Screen-used.

With screen used you get less, but in a way more. With replicas you get more, but sometimes you feel less.

I can't decide for you, but I would probably sell my entire collection and more if I got the chance to buy one particular screen used hero prop. Though, I would be insanely more worried that it'd break... AAARRRGGGHHH!!! :confused

You can ALWAYS find replicas. Get the real deal when/if you can.

See, that right there is why I would prefer a replica. Though I can absolutely appreciate the appeal of a screen-used hero, I would have a very tough time with the delicacy of it. I've always been a very hands-on person, so when I show people (for example) my replica Mal pistol, I would like to be able to hold it like a real gun, click the trigger a few times, let them hold it if they'd like. If I had a screen-used hero pistol, it would just sit in a display case taunting me, saying "please pick me up!"...and that's just not appealing.

Though I suppose it depends greatly on which prop is in question, and whether or not there is a replica of that particular one available.

I think it depends on what it is. If it's a choice between the probe that Fat ******* assimilated or a Replica Studio Scale Cylon Raider, I would choose the Cylon Raider.

It all depends on what it is. A lot of screen used stuff looks like junk. but if your into it . . .
