Screen Used ESB Saber Claim - Legit?

There's a radio show in the Tampa Bay area and a caller to the show wants to sell his "screen used ESB saber". There are pics on the site:

Just wondering what the experts think.

Well from the crapy pics they posted, the saber doesn't appear to match anything that can be readily seen on screen or in publicity photos. Now this doesn't imediately mean its a fake. But since they don't provide any documentation or any evidence to attest to the props auctenticity I wouldn't waist my money on it.

There's a guy on e-bay right now that has a graflex for sale and he claims that it was used in the movies. I called him to ask if he had any evidence to attest to this fact and he said. "No I have no way of substantiating this claim" :unsure

The grips seem a little short!

I seriously doubt it's real. I don't think the Gary Kurtz saber was real either. :eek

It seems to lack ever detail seen in ESB: the circuit board, the extra red button on the bottom, the grips seem to be the wrong shape and material, they are screwed in not rivted and the rivets should be only on the bottom and sunk into grooves cut into the grips. I can't see the bottom to see if there's a D-ring.

Never seen a Luke with 5 grips before. It looks like someone got a graflex and rivited some grips on. From what Iv seen on some sabers that are so called "screen used" they have smallerrivits farther up and lower down. It makes me wonder if they are there in the movies?

Those grips are really weird. Completely the wrong shape - trapezoidal with a wide groove down the center. It only has maybe 5 short grips.
I could maybe believe it if it was fitted with a stunt blade and had some documentation, but I wouldn't touch it as is.

Looks like someone got a hold of a 3-cell graflex and then, using limited reference material from the web, screwed some grip looking material on with some rusty screws.

Maybe, maybe, if we could find something to show that maybe it was a practice saber (maybe for Hamill to get reacquainted with holding one after some time off) or perhaps a quick'n'dirty prototype (though that would be doubtful for an ESB saber).

Personally, I wouldn't touch it for more than $20 (and that would be just to have another graflex 3-cell) without seriously documented provenance - and I mean nothing short of GL telling me himself that he handed this guy that exact saber out of his own personal collection.

The grips appear to be after market car side moulding painted black. Stuff comes in a roll and has a color in the wide center area most of the time.

Used to find it at K Mart.

It reminds me a bit of an early Jeff Parks conversion. I have one of Jeff's Graphlex converts from years ago and there's a few earmarks I'm seeing. Mine's got the proper windshield wiper grips though, not like that abomination.

People will do ANYTHING for a fast buck and there is a sucker born every minute.....if this guy sells this crappy Graflex, shoddily coverted into a "lightsaber" for anything over $100 bucks, I'll bust:sick

Exactly...what reason would there be that someone would have made these changes to a screen used prop.

Come on now seriously.Surely no-one even for a moment thought that some anonymous bozo calling into a talk show was selling a genuine screen-used saber?:wacko

Hey, MY Graflex IS screen used. Seriously!!!!!

I used it to smash a couple of flies on the window screen one day.

Notice the careful wording:

"...has a light saber from the movie "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back"."
Yeah, it's from the movie; that doesn't mean it was actually in the movie. :rolleyes

"Shawn's light saber is 100% authentic and original."
Sure it's authentic and original--it exists, and there isn't another one like it. :confused

"It is not a replica."
Yeah, because if it were it would be a lot more accurate. :confused
