Hi,
I was recently gifted the paragon cryocan which has been one of my holy grail items for the longest time and then decided I wanted night vision goggles to go with it.

Using some orthographic photos of the original prop and my own measurements from one of my konica cameras I've arrived upon this model.

THIS IS A 3D MODEL (For now)

Now this model is far from finished but at a stage where the outside of the mesh is entirely constructed. You'll see in the side profiles especially the gap in between the grey and yellow sections, that's just as I don't want to finalise too much incase I need to change something. Here are some more views below:

Here is also a photo of the underside, as it's not very pretty yet I didn't bother rendering it

My point of this post is to both ask for feedback as I find it's always good to get some fresh eyes on anything I may have missed in the design or looks slightly off. I've tried matching the paintwork as closely as possible to help with comparison but have just noticed as of writing a few minor mistakes in the paint i did make.

As well as feedback I was also wondering if anyone had the following information regarding the goggles they wouldn't mind sharing:
  • What does the lining look like on the inside of the goggles?
  • How does the yellow and grey section fit together on the inside?
  • Does anyone have a clear photo of the inside?
Any help really would be greatly appreciated as the internet seems to be pretty bare on information surrounding this prop despite its iconic status.

From here, to continue building, I'll need to finalise the outer mesh before modelling the interior to either copy the original or to retrofit my own system before making moulds for a fiberglass layup.

I'd like to thank PaulElderDesigns for the incredible files he made years ago that inspired me to build my first set almost a decade ago and davidJurassic for his excellent research and IDing of the found parts that have been instrumental to this build.

As I have too many projects on the go right now this will sort of be in digital purgatory until I finish those but very keen to get stuck into the physical build.

So I've been wanting to practice my airbrushing skills so printed out the goggles and a set of static aiborg mechs to make some static goggles as a quick project to paint up. Just wanted to share my paint matches as it will hopefully save future builders some money in getting touch-up cans etc. for the Ford colours.

I found that for the Ford signal colours, the following substitutions can be made:

Ford Signal Green
is equivalent to Humbrol Signal Green (208)
Ford Signal Yellow
is equivalent to Tamiya Lemon Yellow (X-8)

Previously identified by davidJurassic is the Dark Green being Tamiya Green (X-5)

And finally for the grey, instead of davidJurassic's 'primer grey', I will be using the darker Tamiya German Grey (XF-63) as I feel it lies much closer to the darker colour of the original goggles.

I did have a play around with Tamiya Light Yellow (X-15) instead of the Humbrol Signal Green but its not a good substitute (Although it would have been nice to use all one brand of paints).

So I have my suspicions that ford signal green wasn't the colour used for the night vision goggles as the yellow and dark green are both Tamiya colours. To test this I picked up a pot of Tamiya X-15 Light Green and feel that it is a really close match when compared against the dark green and images of the production goggles under different lighting. I always struggle with matching colours though so if anyone had any insights i'd love to hear them.

I'm also deliberating whether the grey I've chosen is a tad too dark, and looking to possibly add some white in. (As far as i know the XF paints came out after the film so it won't be an exact match).
