Screen accurate Iron Man 3 Helmet for <$40 ?????

It looks pretty cool! But I think it could be quite unstable like usual Halloween masks, if you know what I mean. And if you take a look at his Iron Patriot helmet, the back of the helmet is seperate.

Those are just the Disguise costume helmets, they are just vaccuformed plastic for the most part and most likely don't look that good in person.

Here's the link to the Iron Man 3 stuff on the main Disguise website.

they aren't that bad. it's like an instant pep. a little fiberglass and bondo, hinge it, repaint it and you have a cool helmet in fraction of the time and effort

Yes, because when I think about costuming, the first thing that comes to mind is expending as little time and effort as possible.

So you go around and judge people who do search for an easy route? Really, that was an unnecessary comment.

i second that...some of us have families, full-time jobs and a degrees to pursue...so free time is a luxury to say the least...so does that mean finding a more efficient (time wise) way to enjoy cos-play is frowned upon? the helmet in my pic was made from a vacuformed disguise costume helmet. i didnt have much time before halloween but the results were awesome to say the least...i fiberglassed it bondoed it cut out the face plate hinged it lighted the eyes and installed servos controlled via servo tester. all this in way way way less time it would have taken me to just "pep".

This. Time and effort are two things i like to also save whenever i can so consider this sentiment thirded for much the same reasons. Mig407 that is a sweet IM you made too, great job on modding that helmet! :D

I don't think anyone is here to judge. But i do think that for me it's all about quality and sometimes well most times you're going to have to pay for that. Either through paying for better product or going that extra for the build. I've always thought that if you like to do something, then do it the best you can. Some people are o.k. with just having something average and that is o.k. as well, as long as you enjoy the build or the purchase who's getting hurt anyway...GM

umm lets compare your warmachine to my mk4...since you judge with your condescending comment...

a very wise man once said:
"take what is useful and develop from there"

msleeper's comment may have been unnecessary, but this comment was even more so. Attacking someones work directly like that with a "mines better than yours" comment is kind of a childish thing to do.

If its needed ill post a photo of the mangled remains of my first iron man trial.

Mig I love your helmet.

Sporkey...for every action there is a reaction...that being said im not the one who was being negative. im here on the rpf to learn and share but the comment she made was really unnecessary and down right rude. there was no lol or smileys to indicate humor or sarcasm, which im ok with if that was her intent...but being rude is something i don't tolerate.
Murdoch...quality or rather "craftsmanship" in regards to cosplay is something i really appreciate and admire. i try to make the best of my builds with the little time and resources i have...and with each build i get better. that being said i don't condone being sloppy either. i still consider myself a newbie and i really enjoy the learning process we go thru in our builds..

I did"t direct my comment towards you. My coments were directed at the 2 & 3 post. Took the liberty of looking at you heavy artillary build that looked pretty cool there. Is it finished? Got any pics? I too have read the Tao of Jeet Kune Do, he was a true icon...GM

hahaha. No, brodude, I wasn't referring to your build. I have literally never seen it before, why would you assume I'm criticizing your work? And even if I was, why would you care? I am just some random a-hole on the internet. But no, I was referring to your suggestion to purchase an inferior product in order to cut corners, IE "having a cool helmet in fraction of the time and effort". Yeah, it would save you time, but in my opinion the results wouldn't be worth it. You can spot one of those vacformed helmets a mile away, even if you do just put "a little fiberglass and bondo" on it.

Sorry i am lost. I was' talking about anything that you had posted. lol for future i'll just keep quite...GM

I Bought one of these from 7thavenuestore and had it delivered to the UK, I paid $38 but due delivery and import charges it came to a total of about £40, It is good helmet but as it is so cheap (for a helmet) dont expect to much from it, It joins together in the middle with velcro (hook and loop) which holds it together and also has a velcro strap to hold it under your chin, I couldnt get a helmet in the UK so resorted to this and im still deciding whether i regret it or not, I mean it is ok but its not what I expected, I am now looking into getting one from Someone on the RPF which is real cast helmet, Im going to be waiting till sometime next month before I actually purchase one but I expect it to be much better, 7thavenuestore has recently upped the price from the $38 to $75 which is a bit unbelievable considering the quality of it, If you want a Halloween costume that isnt the best then definetly get this but if your looking for more of a replica then definetly get a more expensive one from theRPF.

For the record, what is the difference between a pep and a vacuum formed bucket as a starting point? Plastic is even self finishing. You have a perfect surface. All you have to do is sharpen up the corners, and fiberglass the inside. I'm probably one of the lucky ones that being 17 I will have a wealth of free time after my exams. The most time consuming part of anything pepakura is curves and contours. Which is the one thing these helm's provide almost flawlessly, which pep doesn't. So I say go for it.
