Scratch build - World of Warcraft; Warrior armor *In Progress*

This is going to be a very long process, as this is my first build of... anything related to cosplay, even more so to armor.

Anyway! Scratch building a custom Transmogrification armor set of my Warrior. Very much in a WiP state right now, but I have been enjoying all of it thus far.

Right now I have only really put much work into the Pauldrons (shoulders) and the front half f the Gorget (neck armor). I do have a base for the breastplate, but don't want to start refining it until the I have the entire Gorget built.

Below are a few WiP images of the Pauldrons as how they started, building them up with expanding foam, and building up the details. The Gorget is pretty much completed, I just need to add paint to the top and bottom most piece to make it look rusted and what not.
There is also an image of the armor as it will hopefully look when built.

Crit, questions and advice are very much welcome, as I'm pretty much reading and applying whatever I can given the limited space and materials I have access to.

@kialna - Tier set or custom? Personally, I'd love to see people create more transmog sets, see how creative they can get!
And yes... build the Drood armor!

@EyeofSauron - If this one turns out well enough, would love to make my Hunters set, and my Paladins. Only issue with the Paladin is that I will only do it as a Tauren, and the legs I would need to buy for that cost a pretty penny. Just more motivation though!

Not sure yet. Thinking of the set my character will get if I gear up soon. Just hit 89, on to 90 and gear along!!

@kialna - Honestly haven't paid too much attention to the new xpac armor. If you get bored enough and create the set on WoWhead, should shoot me a link to the build. Would love to see it!
Right now I don't have a connection that would support smooth gameplay, so my only 90 gets to sit there and rot for the time being.

@Laderniere - Thanks! Starting to work on the axes right now, no idea how long this whole thing will take or how much time I'll be able to put into it weekly. Wish fiberglass would have been a more viable option.

Beginning with elements that can be completed more 'easily' and keep you motivated and confident... I'm no expert, but i think that's the way to go. Before i quit playing i'd always wanted to do a wow build, but I primarily played priest, and I was never much for sewing. :) I really hope this build comes out great! Will you be using various materials or just the exp foam?

Many of the Cata/MoP priest sets look like they have more armor to them than cloth material, same for my lock and mage. No doubt you could find a fun set or hash one together that would be fairly light on the sewing :)

Right now it's nothing terribly complex. A few different plastics, craft or some MC2 foam, leather, and the paper mache' to get everything as durable as possible. There are a few rods thrown in to keep some parts more stable, mostly for the core of the axes and the horns/spikes for the pauldrons. But the main filler for the larger parts will be expanding foam, though I don't think much more of it will need to be used. Should be able to get away with the foam sheets from here on out.

There will be lots of other things for various bits and fine details that will need to be added, but the above are the main things that I'll be using. Will be moving into a new apartment in the coming month, which will be a boon for space but still not enough to start playing around with fiberglass.

Re: Scratch build - WoW; Warrior armor

Been a while since I have posted, but here are some updates.

Scrapping the Gorget, it would be an interesting addition but with everything else it's not really needed. It is also a bit on the clunky side and can be cumbersome with the breastplate that I have built, which is pretty much as accurate as I can possibly get.
Materials used are Wonderflex for the base, Bondo for some durability, paper mache to round out some areas, and various craft foams for all of the details.

Working on the backplate when I can, have had some other things come up over the last few months that drags everything out far more than I'd like. Have most, if not all of the needed materials for the rest of the build, and am going to be working on bits and pieces as things progress.

Hi Roth, your build looks great so far! I'm starting a build on the paladin tier two Judgement set. How did you assemble your shoulders? I'm trying to get some pointers on getting the shape of the actual shoulder plate.

For some designs, you could probably get away with using the plastic shells for carpenter knee pads as a good base. For mine, I just used giant plastic bowls and did the major design work on that, but will probably use the shells on the inside since they tend to fit my shoulders nicely and will give them some extra stability (those things are heavy since I used a stupid amount of Paper Mache, but it looks good to me so the weight is worth it), plus I'll be able to attach some material to them and loop that around my shoulders similar to a holster. They just need a bit of padding but otherwise feel great when I've been working on them.

I've been looking at a lot of Armor crafting books and history books for real armor builds and finding ways to adapt them to this build, and it's a lot of trial and error. Right now I haven't had a lot of time to work on everything as I have other things that require immediate attention.

Re: Scratch build - WoW; Warrior armor

Great job on the WoW armor. I'm looking into a lock armor set. I've been having a heck of a time getting started on it, but you've given me the inspiration I needed. Thanks! I wish there was more Warcraft armor out there. Can't wait to see your finished armor!
