Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Was looking forward to this so much. I thought this could be a great breakout for Micheal Cera - but, it appears that they've "Michael Cera'd" Scott Pilgrim. Sigh... he's officially typecast now. Couldn't they at least do something with his hair. Sigh x 2.

On the other hand, the rest of the movie looks great. I love Edgar Wright's work, and the comic book/manga feel that we see in the trailer looks very promising.

I agree with this. I love the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, and Edgar's work, but Michael Cera... I don't know. I somewhat enjoy him, but he bugged me in that teaser; especially his voice, it was really grating on me in the teaser. I just hope the experience of the overall movie will "wow" me like it has those who have seen it already.

Epic miscasting. I thought Edgar Wright must know something about Cera that we didn't to cast him in this role. Clearly I was wrong. **** Michael Cera and his one-note nerd act. And damn, everyone else looks spot-on.

What the hell was Wright thinking?

He was thinking he wanted to sell tickets. Scott Pilgrim has a a niche following, unfortunately Cera is the only reason this movie will make any money. Think of McLovin in Kick-Ass.

I'm really looking forward to the film. :thumbsup

I never even heard of this comic before the movie and it really doesn't appeal to me, I'm hoping I'm wrong (I was about Kill Bill so I could be about this).

I'm hoping to see the flick in a little bit. The more I think about it, the more I worry about Cera in the title role.

If the movie bombs, I really think that's because people might be sick of Michael Cera at this point... and well, frankly - without seeing the film - he seems miscast.

I've got hope.

I saw the movie last night at a special preview thanks to Universal Studios.

My impression? It was good, not great. I loved all the homages to the games and shows that I loved watching when I was a kid, and I really got a kick out the unique character portrayals. Lots and lots of variety! It was also a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. The remix of the universal opening was smile inducing, and the remix of the Zelda theme in Scott's vision was my personal highlight.

However, there was one element in the film that really took me out of the whole thing. Death. Why was it necessary for the exes to die? I mean, I never really looked at them as really evil characters, and never saw Scott Pilgrim as the kind of guy who would take death lightly. But here he is, killing these characters without having a moment of remorse or pity. When that vegan character got de-powered and Scott just upfront murdered him, I really lost all sympathy I had towards his character.

Plus, watching Michael Cera killing bisexual/lesbian characters SSUUCCKKSS!!

Well, just got back. It was good, not great. Kept waiting for it to hit the next level, and it really just never got there for me. It was very watchable and fun, with a couple real LOL moments.

As predicted the weak point was Michael Cera. Just never became *Scott Pilgrim* to me... was just another typical Cera character (and looked no where near Scott's alleged age of 22). Keiran Culkin should've been Scott Pilgrim.

I do think I'm going to start a band called 'Michael Cera's Stupid Hair.'

I used to like Michael Cera, but he's becoming the next Jeff Goldblum, stammering, ummmmm....ahhhhhh....SPIT IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's growing old.

It was over-hyped at SDCC, that's usually a sign that it will blow.

Although so was Watchmen and that rocked.

Yup. Cause when people die they all turn to quarters, and you get level up'd and bonus points.

The movie's fights were akin to video games and you don't pat the bad guys on the head and scold them. You kill them... and then turn to quarters and you get level'd up and bonus points.
