I have been fortunate enough to be asked by mike to do an instructions thread on building this monster gallactica. I thought it would be best done in video form, it is easyer to understand what is being instructed. please keep in mind there are a hundred ways to do some of these things, im showing you the best AND easiest way I know how.
I understand that there may be several people out there that have never built a garage kit before, and are very intimidated by this. don't be. go slow, follow what im showing you and always double check your measurements

in this first video, we will go over some basics for those that don't know already.

please feel free to ask questions,

    Thanks for the Video.

As they say - you are always learning new and exciting things about this hobby - as I am sure I will pick-up some new techniques along the way from these video's. Looking forward to the rest. :thumbsup

By the way, what is the name of that tool you used for getting irregular shapes templated onto the wood for cutting into a perfect fit?

Great job so far. Just a thought... how are you going to run the fiber optics? All that wood and copper piping will be in the way. Especially under the bridge section.

You know, I don't currently own the galactica kit but I find some you tips in tutorials very helpful on other projects.
Great videos all the way around.
Sure wish I had these when I started my first resin kit.

Hey Trooper, even though I have not built a resin kit (I don't even have one in my stash) I just wanted to say great videos. They have been most insightful on many levels with very useful techniques and tricks that can be applied to any build project. Looking forward to what's to come.

here is the pic I referred to in the video, you can see there was plastic strips added to cover seams and add detail. I will replicate this a little. kg-tos_battlestar-studio_model_reference-220.jpg

the best reference pics I have found are here - http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=4124
if any one knows of any more please let me know, I would like to find more shots of the ship lit up so I can map out where the fiber optics go

    thank you

First a very belated and HUGE thanks to Trooper for taking these instructions on, in the weeks leading up to Wonderfest i have been even more pressed for time than ever. So thanks big time.

I have not even had a chance to sit down and watch the vids yet, maybe at my hotel room at Wonderfest i can watch them finally, no kids around, well only big kids i guess.

Update on the kit, it's discontinued for the foreseeable future, sorry, lots of reasons why but for now, all gone.

Thanks to everyone who has one, i appreciate everyone's business more than I get a chance to convey on the boards.

Good news on the update parts, I have bags and bags of them cast up, and will get to shipping them shortly after i recover from WFest.

    thanks
    mike

    aw thats a shame.

brought back memories to the series and the one i build from scratch when i was young. think ill start one again though i dont have the skills or materials to make it a perfect model. the one i build as kid was made of plywood, bondo, superglue and lots of small parts that where never meant for modeling. still hurts to think it got destroyed in a house fire.

made it from polaroid pictures i took from the tv screen and foto's from magazines so i bet it was of by miles.

Best kit I veer bought, twice for that matter. Thank you Mike for all your hard work and letting us all in to that amazing world.

As for the kit, if it is just cost I believe you could easily sell it for 30% more then it's first run.

    thank you guys :)
sorry for the lack of vids this last several days, I have not been feeling well the last week or so, doc put me on blood pressure meds, I feel horrible, I felt fine before, no problems, I took the meds for about a week, felt like poodoo and wanted to just sleep when I got home. I stopped taking them, and I feel fine again and have lots of energy lol

so any way. I was working on the top and bottom engine covers. I purchased two kits each of the dragon 1/144 Leopold kit and the morser karl kit, these are the kits mike used for the masters. the top cover I mostly added tubing cut in half to open things up a bit like the studio ship. plus added a couple bits.

plus I finished removing the old tank tracks.
    here it is primed
