Safety Question About Foam Rubber

Ultimatum

I'm using black foam rubber for some Tron Legacy costumes, there's lots of tiny details on the suits so I thought I could heat a blade and carve those shapes in. My question is, does heating this kind of material give off dangerous fumes?
I know burning normal rubber is pretty bad, so I thought I'd make sure before I accidentally die a horrible death...Before I even get to wear this thing!

When in doubt, wear a respirator. Wall mart sells them cheap, get one that rated for organic fumes so you have all you bases covered. You should really use it anytime you spraypaint or use toxic glues, ect. Small exposures are harmless, but when this is your hobby they have a cumulative effect.
