So I asked my little girl what she wanted for her birthday, and she said Power Rangers S.P.D. :confused So I asked her to be more specific and she got confused, but we finally landed on a helmet. I've never built anything before, but I have the knowledge from reading awesome builds on here. Not to mention great help from Stealth's videos on YouTube.
I was initially going to scratch build it, but I lucked out and was able to get a Pep file. The file was very low poly, but I wasn't complaining it still made my life 10x easier.
The file lacked the side siren details and the five black squares on the forehead amongst other details, as these would get lost during the filler stage. So I did some paper mache to help me keep track. I added some filler and it looked a long way away from being awesome haha
I just kept filling and sanding, filling and sandind etc with coats of Primer inbetween (If I ever do this kind of thing again I'm investing in an electic sander!)

I was running out of time, my girl's birthday was fast approaching, so any little holes and dents I had to leave. It kept me awake at night thinking about them, but my girlfriend kept reminding me "it's just going to be for a 4 year old". Still the perfectionist in me wasn't 100% happy. Anyway, I finally got round to cutting it in half. (nerve racking stuff!)

However I missed the birthday deadline
but she was really cool about, I bought her the Megaforce morpher as a little filler present. Without the worry of the deadline I went back and filled more holes and played around with it a bit more... Untill I ran out of filler and spot putty, and money. Ah well, I just said frick it and started painting.
It was finally starting to come together, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.
The helmet is practically done now. Just need to add the foam padding inside and complete the badge on the forehead, then clear coat. Most likely do it with acrylic paint.
The Princess Ranger approves!
This was a fun learning curve, but it's given me the confidence to build more. I'm going to tackle the Black ranger movie helmet to go on display with my Red helmet. I already have movie lables for the 93 morpher, you can see the coin in one of the pics above but need another morpher I'll customize. I also need a dragon coin :unsure
I'm going to model it in 3D then pep. Reference pics of the helmet are slim, and movie shots are useless, they're so damn dark!! But from my knowledge of the show helmet and its "anatomy" I put this together in photoshop.
I have no clue what the air vent on the back looks like, I think that's the only thing I'm really missing.
Thanks for looking and inspiring me
Untill next time.
