i got a small commission to make yangs gauntlets from the rooster teeth anime RWBY. at first i was going to jut make them out of EVA foam but i wanted to try something new so i decided to plastic coat them. These gauntlets are gonna be more of a male version genderbender of yang.
I started out drawing out a test templet to see if it will fit. Since it wasn't a complicated design this didnt take as long.
I then cut them out of EVA floor foam mats and then i cut out cavities from the underside. This is so i can get an angle on the foam without having to cut the foam in pieces. Then i gave it a little heat with a heat gun and glued foam sheets to keep the glue seam clean and glued some squishy foam for comfort.
Now time for the plastic coating part! I coated the gauntlets with a thick coat of PVA glue and then i coated three coats of smooth cast ONYX. In between coates i sanded the high spots from the resin.
Now time for the sanding filling. I gave the gauntlets a first thin pass of spott putty and then some primer and rinse and repeat
So far one gauntlet is close to being finish. Tomorrow ill be doing the sand and filling process. And hopefully the day after ill be able to paint them.
If your interested in this thread stay tuned.
