i have a thread in the costume forum wondering if the entire outfit kicks ass (hey, rubies did good with the vader.), but this is mainly for nitpicking the crap out of the mask.

i dont like the DC direct one. its not because its dc direct, and its not for any parts that are wrong or just off, its mainly to see if the halloween mask is worth a damn or not.

i see these on ebay and in a few costume shops online going for pretty cheap.

anyone have one? is it sturdy plastic, is it vinyl, is it cool looking, is it crap, is the best one with that uberV costume set?

any helps appreciated. gotta get a good one for the girlfriend for christmas :)

its VERY thin rigid plastic. Not entirely accurate, but pretty neat nonetheless. I think the one with the Rubies Costume is just the normal one (just like with the Rubies Vader). Its painted kind of a brownish yellow color so it definetely needs a repaint. Id never be able to pull of a V Costume, so it makes a great wall hanger with the rest of my stuff, definetely was worth the $10 or so I paid for it.

I've been wondering about this too- I just got around to seeing the movie last week, and I've been glancing around the various threads to see which mask is the one to get.

There's plenty on eBay that run under 15.00, but there's a handfull that seem to routinely break 40.00 -50.00. What's so special about those? I haven't had time to really study the differences yet. :confused

Thanks.

no difference, just people who dont know they can get them for $10 on halloween sites.

You're sure? There isn't like a deluxe version or something? Doesn't one have the eye inserts? Or is that just from the pic being taken on a dark background?

i just saw the movie last week as well...really enjoyed it

i was kinda surprised that nobody here had a fan made mask for sale... :p

there is a fiberglass mask on ebay now for $100 that looks ok...the DC mask is big bucks now right?

maybe the cheapy rubies mask is the way to go?...i too would love to read a review on the Rubies costume

Hey, quick question-

Did the movie mask have black screen/mesh in the eyes or formed plastic?

Anyone know?

If I'm not mistaken (and I very well may be) I thought the Rubies mask was the EXACT same one they gave out at DC, hence making the DC mask masks now worthless. Well, at least worth 10.00. :D

DC direct ones were made from porcelin.

Here are the mods I did to creat my personal masks (from a base mold):
-lower nose area reworked,
-upper nose (long section) rounded out
-overall "slimming" (rubies is too wide)
-reworked eye area/shape
-overall deepening/sharpening of details
-rounded the outer upper mustache edge
-prodtruding lower gotee
-the obvious more accurate paint scheme
-re propertioning of the jaw area around the gotee (fixes the silhouette a bit)

I may have forgotten a few things, but those are what I did for my peronal ones.

EDIT: also, I pull them from a much thicker plastic. (rubies is very flimsy, ie: general vacuformed halloween masks)

Ah, gotcha. My fault. I thought we were making refernce to the free promo's given away at Comic Con.

There seems to be some confusion over DC and DC Direct, here.

The mask handed out at DC (Dragon Con) was the rigid, $10.00 plastic one. The DC Direct is the Porcelain one, and probably the one that will cost you the most.
