Rubies Stormtrooper Armor on SNL last night

Anyone catch the opening monologue on Saturday Night Live last night? Host Ashton Kutcher was trying to keep from saying 'Awesome!' as various awesome sights happened to show up next to him in the studio. One sight was a stormtrooper bartender serving a fruity drink to Superman at a bar. It looked to me that the armor he was wearing was Rubie's deluxe (read crappy) armor. It had an ill-fitting chest plate and the helmet was pure Rubies.

Check it out here:

Yup, Rubies.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Excuse me.

The Rubies stuff is being used for this kind of thing all over. Saw videos on funnyordie.com using it, too. And other places that I can't remember offhand.

Since it's licensed, people are using it without fear of being sued, and since it's ready to wear, not a kit, producers can just have their props/costume people pop into a store and buy it. It's immediately recognizable for what it's supposed to be - no producer of a comedy show will care if it's screen accurate!

I agree,
The days of us 501st nerds gettin sweet hi-profile gigs are coming to an end.
We'll still get some, but overall it's ending.
