RS Stormtrooper Prototype

This is VERY cool! A cast from original ANH suit. I never thought i would see this happen!

Keith.

it was an incomplete suit as far as I'm aware but still the first ANH casted......:thumbsup

Dunno... the pics that were posted of the original suit showed what appeared to be a complete suit anyways... even down to the lil' details like thigh drop boxes, sniper knee plate, thigh mini ammo belt etc. etc.

It might be missing the ab-plate buttons panel but that's not going to keep anyone awake at night ;)
Minor things such as this, can easily be scratchbuilt without ruining the integrity of the suit as a whole. Luckily all the basic forms are present and accounted for, such as the chest plate, back plate, abdominal/cod piece, kidney/butt armour, arms n legs :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

IMO it's these components' shape and 'look' that is so hard to replicate by talented sculptors.... and makes ALL the difference between a fantastic scratchbuilt suit, and one which looks exactly like the Stormtrooper armour you see on screen when watching A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back.

The only minor things that I can see with these pics can be easily addressed by Rob and Si, as mentioned by BobTheRocker the return edges do look a tad shallow on the bottom of the chest piece.
Perhaps this is a result of over-enthusiastic trimming, and the return edge is present in the vac-formed chest piece 'fresh off the former' ?
And as Rob has already stated, the issue with the curvature of the chest piece that Brian Muir pointed out.
^^^ Man, how can the end result be anything but perfect, when you have the original sculptor of the armour providing critique, and access to an original ANH movie suit to make the moulds from?!?!

We've come a LONG WAY from Armor F/X my friends... what a truly exciting time it is to be a Stormtrooper fan! :thumbsup :love :love
Bring on the Stormtroopers!!

Cheers,
John

Great work, guys.

I'm curious as to whether you'll be offering these as complete suits or as runs of individual parts, allowing one to build the armor to completion?

Either way.. :thumbsup

I'd like to know this as well.

The only things missing are the ab buttons, sniper knee plate and I think it had different type of hand plates than what you usually see. So 98% complete original suit. Sooooo awsome.

The latex handguards would likely have rotted over the last 34 years, so would have been unusable for mould-making purposes. However, Rob has confirmed that latex handguards will be available with the final replica costume. :thumbsup
The abdomen-armour button plate isn't a difficult piece to scratchbuild IMO and it's accuracy is unlikely to 'make or break' the accuracy of a replica stormtrooper costume. :unsure

And as for the sniper knee plate....

ANH_sniper_knee.jpg

.... judging by this pic of a sniper knee plate from the LFL Archives, I don't believe that ANY of them would have survived the last 34 years, so I guess we can forgive Si for not having one on his original costume ;)
Looks like the vacform plastic was *very* thin after it was stretched over the sniper knee plate 'buck' and this part of the trooper costume was often damaged by knocking against the bottom of the thigh armour, as you can see from looking at the damaged area at the top of this piece.

Lookin' forward to this :love

You sound as excited as me on this one John. Personally this is the moment I never thought would come.Rob and Si really are doing a great job on this one.

I always thought the sniper plate looked to be made at a different time or place to the armor. It's has a different color to it and appears much thinner plastic. Makes sense as it was added post sandtrooper.

I thought this was a sandtrooper set, which is explains the missing sniper knee and shoulder bridges. Then we have this pic simon took which shows what appears to a hand guard behind the left legView attachment 68565

The armour is a mix of stormtrooper and sandtrooper. The belt has drop boxes at the sides and it has the cannister that goes on the belt so stormtrooper. The torso is sandtrooper. The arms could have been swapped about from stormtroopers and sandtroopers as well. The armour has both types of shoulder bells I think. It does also have two right upper arms and two right forearms (which is no big deal as I am sure Han or Lukes trooper suits had arms mixed up as well on screen).

It is a superb example of a trooper and I agree with Keith I never thought we would ever see the day.

One thing I like about RS Prop Masters is they have listened to the constructive critisism given on the forum so hopefully anything flagged up from the prototype can help get this right and not be seen as negativity :thumbsup

Don't jump all over me trooper fans but I would say is the prototype belt looks too sharp compared to the original belt. I also think the right knee boxes look too sharp as well.

Apart from the belt / knee boxes I think it looks pretty bloody good so far :)

I will definitely be getting at least one of these suits if not more.

Oh also forgot to ask Rob. Will RS Prop Masters be doing the sandtrooper diamond style sniper plate as well as the stormtrooper one?

Cheers Chris

Dave,

I am not 100% sure but I don't think it has two right shins I think it is the trimming on the bottom of the left shin that is a bit deceiving.

If you look at the pics of the back of the legs you will see the outer section of the lower legs both left and right is the part that overlaps the inner part of the leg at the back. The set up in the top of the lower legs with the hooks and elastic are definitely right leg and left leg set ups.

Hope that makes some sense.

Chris

Hey Chris,Don't think I ever seen pictures of the back of the legs.I was just going by the top front of the shins. They look very a like. Thanks for the heads up about the back of the shins.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Yeah sorry describing what I meant without pics is rubbish so this may help a bit better.
