Royal Guard Helmets

I think the shadow on the wall behind it is playing tricks with your eyes...
:eek

LOL, point taken. Though, another thing. On the screen helmets, the lower line of the protruding brow appears to be shaped differently - a slight upward curve above the eyes - whereas the DP helmets have a downward curve, as if the plastic has warped and couldn't hold the shape. There is also a line on the raised area above the brow section that is also not on the DP/fan made helmets... or is it again, just me seeing things?

I disagree. What looks like a detail line is actually a shadow from above. Notice that it also falls on the collar of the helmet and on the robe. And what looks like a glint off an edge is really the reflection of the force pike the mannequin is holding.

You can see in this photo from a different exibit, the "line" has disappeared...

Also, the "visor" looks very different depending on the angle the photo is taken from...

A smoky lens instead of red? I gotta say red is easier to see through, and accurate. But eh..
Ok, now about this:

While the pic has a little background not trimmed, you can see that the lens sits pretty flush with the upper lip of the visor area. This looks to be a pain, and the MOM ones may have been altered or had the old lenses fall out so it's hard to know. Is this a possibility?
JJ

The MOM exibits are famous for their inaccuracies, so I'm not sure that flush mounted is correct, but if the concensus is that the red lenses are accurate, I can certainly offer red lenses instead of smoked.

EDIT:

Just ordered some red tinted acrylic.

;)

Having the lenses installed from behind would ease the fit, right? Or would that mean trimming of parts of the eye section on the helmet? If so... just forget my question. .)

Also... for the Royal Guards... I always thought their lenses were black.?

I would like a black lens in any case. I just like the look better

Looking great so far

Great price. Seriously sweet looking helmet......nice :)
The lenses were indeed red as in the Chronicle pic above, lighting made them appear darker on-set. JJ

I'll leave it up to the individual then, as to whether they want a smoked or red lens. And yes, I plan to mount them from inside. It seems the best way to install them and keep the edges from looking ugly.

How big a melon do these fit? I know the DP is a bit...tight.

GM actually let me try this one on and I was really surprised at how comfortably it was. :thumbsup It sits nice & securely on your shoulders without being too heavy and/or bouncing too much. Pleanty (but not TOO much) of room inside also. There were no visors installed when I tried it on...

GM said he would have to special order the "Beer Goggles Visor" that I wanted. :lol

Well, I think I'm about a 7 3/4 hat size if I recall. Been a while since I've worn any kind of hat, but yeah, I have a big honkin' skull.

The helmet looks amazing. I was originally only interested in getting one to make into a KOTOR-style but now seeing how gorgeous the unaltered version is, I think I want one of each. :confused

I found a source for precolored red gel coat. A little pricey, but the color will be consistant.
[/b]
Could you shoot me a few pointers when you get to working with that gelcoat please... as I am generally interested in how it works - to get that nice deep glossy look.
