ROTJ Speederbike reference needed

Cool! Thanks, marvin! The 312T has similar looking parts but are shorter and fatter. The BT44 parts look more accurate.

Yes I agree. Although it does seem a tad big. Do you think that Johnston trimmed the bottom ring? I can't really count the visible rings from the ref.

Marvin

I could be seeing things, but I think that part A47 from the 88mm flak is sitting on the side of the handle bars (glued to the side of 20mm flak)

Hmmm..not entirely sure as I don't have those particular parts. However, I think I can see the bottom ring painted in the lighter body color. I think. I guess we need to see if the square peg fits the round hole. :)

Interesting.....unfortunately I'm outta town to check. Depending on the size relationship to the Flak part and if the 88mm A47 doesn't pan out....what do you think of the 312T G8 being that part?

Joe

It looks like this kind of hit a dead end.

I've been looking at the access cover part area on the side below the seat area and noticed on the drawings it looks kind of like a flak gepard top hatch, but on this mockup bike it looks like this kind of hatch on an F1 car. Which car? I don't know, but this tamiya tyrell p34 has a similar detail. But it has a hole in it, and the other seems to have a couple of bumps on it. What other kits might have this oval hatch plus some rounded boxy section that it's on? I'll try to dig out some kits to look. If anyone has any handy, maybe give a look.

At least that might be something to go on...

@ Scott: Yeah I had also been looking at these hatches that are found on the F1 cars. I haven't been able to ID the right one though, but I think you are on to something.

@ Seven: wow must have had that part in hand a couple of dozen times but it never clicked. I think you are on to something.

I'm sorry I've been out of it for a while, too many issues at home to deal with. I did find the time to put a few parts together and prime them. BTW, if anyone asks me again what primer to use I won't be saying Tamiya anymore. Mr Surfacer 1200 thinned with Mr Levelling Thinner is my new thing. Stuff went on smoother then anything I've ever seen.

Very nice, and clean start, Marvin! I've only cut a few parts. Still waiting on the sidelines, hoping some better photoref turns up...

Scott, those covers are tough. Is it me or does the lip around the edge not go around completely?

7, I think you've got something close with the G8/9 being a part of the intake. Really cool!

Marvin, dude, I dig the assembled parts! I agree with you about the primer. It looks thin and clean. Jason E. was correct about Plastikote tweaking their formula. It's still good but not as awesome as it used to be. I might have to check out your method.

I'm also glad the BT46 C4's worked for the gun mount!

I don't know Joe. It looks like an aberration in the photo to me. Good point. You can see two dimples (or pimples) of some sort in the center of the shape too.

On to another part:

What about this shot I posted at SSMs about the center part connecting the front and rear body being something like this part of an F1 car? I know it's not much to go on, but may lead somewhere. This is a Ferrari T4 body, but the intakes don't come flush to the surface as needed.

The T4 was what was id'd at the beginning of the thread but I've always felt that it wasn't the donor. Could be wrong of course. The most recent photos from the ROTJ bible show a part that sorta looks like the top of an a/c fuselage....or bottom? Anyone know of a jet whose wheels retract from the side(ish) and not directly from the bottom? Maybe the "intakes" on the bike are wheel wells.

Joe

Missed your pick of that earlier. Maybe I should re-read the thread. Oops.

Yeah, maybe an aircraft intake even.

I'm glad you're reviving this thread. I know forces me to continue the search for more parts. I remember looking through a few 1/24 and 1/32 a/c but never got anywhere. I was looking for fuse tops only, though. Gonna have to go back and re-check.
