ROTJ Fabricated Scopes

Whats the screw size you've used for the scope?
uhhhh, it's not a "32nd" .. hmm.. the head size is the same/a hair larger than the flat space on the scope knob
GREAT WORK!
THANK YOU!

Forgot I had some of these photos

The 7/8 scope they used:

And the auction gun

I just picked up a batch of these old film canisters for the heck of it. it's not the part but a VERY close and honestly.. more durable.. version. Maybe I'll make some more!

thd9791 how long have those Stembridge pics been out there?! Those are the best pics I’ve seen to date! Thanks so much for sharing! I know ur journey (which I admire greatly) is to find the real world parts but your discover and postings have lead me to revisiting this design of the scope front itself. Its like everything else.. still a work in progress to get the details “right” but definitely getting better :)

So truly thank you!

absolutely! I'm glad these photos helped you further your extremely accurate models. blows me away some of the stuff you come up with

Whats your opinion on the hammer and lock frame for this Stembridge.. do you think it was painted black or has the silver just weathered over time to a darker grey? These are all just close ups of all the pictures that I’m aware of of this prop..

I want to say both are just worn from use. The stembridge specifically wasn't painted, just the mount. The gun is characteristically raw blue so I would assume the rest of it is.

Today I realized the hammer has all those ring patterns in it too. I'm guessing the brass nuts on the mount are just that, threaded from the back, just with a circle put on the front to mimic the countersunk screws on the other guns. Corellian Exports makes something like this, however his scribed ring is a bit too small

I have some good news.
From what I understand, some stormtrooper guns were made in the 90s for pick-up shots. These shots were to be inserted into the special edition coming out on VHS at the time. The blasters had trapezoidal ridges for T track and a couple casts are floating around. It would appear the scopes used leftover parts from Return of the Jedi. I now have a cast of one of those scopes. I dusted it in Tamiya black lacquer, it was just beige resin, poured a month ago from a mold of the real resin part.

The bell, scope ring and cap appear to be from 1983. The rivet and the knurled tip appear to be fabricated new for it, and it's missing the decorative tip. Also, the beveled tip was covered in excess resin. I could see the true shape on one side of the scope, an area about 1/8" wide, and used a dremel to remove the flashing and carve out the true shape. It may be a bit taller than whatever it looked like, so I can always blunt the tip if we get good reference. This is the true shape of the knob though. I matched the parts I carved to the exposed area on the left of the scope.

Yes, bubbles galore, but I wanted to preserve the surface caught in the mold. You can really tell by the lathing marks that this was one of the Delrin copies made in 1983

And finally, there were so many bubbles on the face of the cap that there was no detail to discern. I used superglue and baking soda to fill everything in, and used a metal file to flatten it out again. :(

I do like that you can see the thick flange underneath the scope ring and the thickness of the cap captured in the mold. Hard to see, but it's there.

There we go, lets talk!

Yesss, I forgot about you, sorry lol I can either take measurements or you can send yours over to me to compare them.

I think they lathed quite a few, if I'm not mistaken the stormtrooper one on display has a smaller nub in the center.
