Rohan Royal Guard Armor - WIP- Lord of the Rings Rohirrim Costume

So I've never seen this costume done before and I love all the Rohan costumes in LOTR.
This may take a while to complete, but I've got some ideas! I'm planning to do mostly real leather, metal, maile as much as possible.

Muster the Rohirrim!

Re: Rohan Royal Guard Armor - Lord of the Rings Rohirrim Costume

Thanks to my friends over at Gyűrűk Ura cosplay club I'm off to a good start!

I still need to attach a lining and a sheet of chain mail across the neck.

Ok so I got a bunch of sheet aluminum to make the pauldrons, bracers, and greaves. I plan to layer that with leather for the details.

I also got a bunch of EVA foam so I can start making templates for the belts, sword rigging, and armor pieces!
I also found these circular buckles to use for the circles in the belt rigging. I'll post reference for that once I get the template started.

I'm planning to do all the final belts and rigging in real leather.

Thanks for the support!

Ok so here's some reference shots of the chest strap part of the belt rigging...

And then there's the hip part of the belt rigging. At first I thought there was just a singular circle at the hip where the belts connected, but....

Then after looking closer at some screen shots and at the action figures (which have a surprising amount of detail) you can see that there are two circles right next to each other. The chest strap goes from one circle, across the chest and back, and then connects to the second circle.
And then the sword hangs of a strap from each circle.

So here's my mock up of some of the rigging, so now I can start figuring out dimensions in EVA before doing the final version in leather....

For the two main buckles at the chest and waist I decided to sculpt it. Just finished the final sculpt and tomorrow I'll make a mold and cast a couple.

Making a mock up of the belt out of EVA to get a basic template before I start making it all out of leather. Think I've pretty much got a good idea of the basic dimensions down.

Cool, spear like a snooker cue, neat idea, nice update. Did you finish the belt rigging, I still wanna see what it looks like in leather.

Thanks!
i got sidetracked for a while building a lifesize Master Splinter, but I'm back on track again! Hoping to get some leather work done this weekend.

also got some metal scale armor in from Theringlord website. Now I have to use the bending brake to give them all the vertical bend like the screen used costume has.
im thinking it's going to take around 800 of these for me.
eventually I plan to sew all these on to a duck cloth tunic.

Those scales look so cool, I'm glad you're making this costume super authentic. Make sure you whether the armour once it's finished so it looks old just like the stuff worn in LOTR. Can't wait for an update.

So with a little help from my friends, the leather is started for the belt rigging, and the brooches and gorget have been started. Both will be molded and cast when done!
