I am ok with the idea of them going forward with the movies. That is, into the future from the OT. In fact, I'd prefer they go FAR into the future (at least far enough to have a different generation of characters).
What I really DON'T want is them telling the "story" of every major current character.
Han Solo is cool because I don't know everything about him. The mystery is PART of his character. Likewise Yoda. Frankly, absolutely NOTHING any writer could come up with would be as interesting as NOT KNOWING what these characters did when they were kids, or young adults, or whatever. If the prequels gave us anything, it gave us this lesson.
The exception I would make would be extremely periphery characters. I might even be willing to stretch that to someone like Fett. Maybe.
