Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Huh, maybe Joe Johnston will get a shot at that Boba Fett movie?

I love Daniel Logan and he has been hoping for this to happen for years! Unfortunate his genetics have screwed him and he's still a tiny dude. I fear his hopes will be dashed in the rocks if marketability. He is a bit of a good ball.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Bingo. Big problem with the PT is that despite the fact that they had a LOT more space to explore they had to bring just about everyone back into them. It made the universe seem very small. :thumbsup

That was the attempt to bridge the old with the new to bring some familiarity to the story for those of us who grew up with the OT, and it STILL didn't really feel like Star Wars even with the familiar characters. I'd imagine for the majority, it would be ten times worse with NO familiar characters in a universe that's "supposed" to be Star Wars. I wouldn't be one of them as I'd welcome some completely clean slates, and most likely would many of those who grew up with the prequels. Then again, they may have the same syndrome with the prequels as we've had with the OT... At any rate, I think those who want that completely clean slate are far fewer than those who wouldn't and that's probably what those at Lucasfilm/Disney are thinking as well.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I hope they stick with Han's backstory of Imperial Academy dropout/deserter, rescues Chewie from slavery story.

+ and this would mean stormtroopers, star destroyers and..... Darth vader would it not? Seems like a given considering the timeline. Wouldn't have to involve Vader per se' but seems they could show Han "outrunning imperial cruisers"

this is huge! I wonder who they'll cast for this! Hope it's a good young Harry look-a-like!

I totally agree. And with the PT we definitely needed guys like Yoda and Obi-Wan. It's the folks like Fett and Chewbacca that was like "really?" Why are they here?

It definitely has the potential to be great. No Vader though please. Reference him sure but no reason for him to be in every story. Definitely Stormtroopers and Star Destroyers though! :D

And a young Lando gambling away his ship. ;)

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Rumour is that they're going to be doing 2-3 films a year??? :eek

If true that's a LOT of Star Wars all of a sudden...

Jeez, that is a lot. Well, look at it this way, with that many Star Wars flicks coming out, we're bound to get some awesome ones, right?

...right??? :confused

If it's true (and thus far it's just a rumour) I just hope it doesn't mean that these won't get the dedication that they deserve.

On the other hand Star Wars might start taking some real risks again which would be awesome.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I think they need to start with a convincing actor..that can learn a few mannerisms, rather than an impressionist.

Absolutely. Like a River Phoenix or Sean Patrick Flanery type actor.

I don't want a HF impression, I want someone who will capture the essence of Solo and run with it. :thumbsup

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Well said!! A shame River weren't still around, but I suppose he's be too old now to play a young Solo.

He'd be older now than Ford was when he was playing regular Solo! :eek

43... :confused

I feel old now! :lol

Anything from the Imperial regime timeframe would be stellar, and this aspect of Han's life would be backstory that would be interesting rather than a superfluous non-event.
