Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One

Total fan service.

Hey Disney. As great as it is to have more star wars, we'd also like NEW star wars. Maybe come up with an idea or two

Re: Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One

That does seem silly. I mean...bounty hunters hunt bounties, not chase after stolen McGuffins.

And are they all pals? The Malevolent 7 or something? I always wondered if Fett, Dengar and Bossk were meant to have some connection, with their presence at Jabba's Palace but it does seem like a coincidence for ALL the ESB bounty hunters and TCW fan favorite Cad Bane to show up together in Rogue One to perform this little task too. Does the Empire do this on a regular basis? Could this imply Cad Bane is killed, thus his absence in TESB?

I got news for you guys, Disney doesn't care how you may feel about it. To be clear, for every OT fan who can't accept recasted characters or inclusion of old side characters in new content they will bring in 10 new fans who don't have as much baggage and familiarity with the past. SW is becoming a multi generational franchise and the first casualties will be the intransigent old hard core fans that can't let go. These stories are going to be fresh and new to so many people.

Re: Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One

I'm okay with Bossk and Dengar often working the same job(s) with Fett -- whether they're a crew or just responding to the same posting. I'm less sanguine including all the ESB bounty hunters. I do, however, like Cad Bane being there and look forward to seeing him in live-action. It'd be nice to have Aurra Sing back, too, to actually see her do something in a movie.

I would like to see the droid bounty hunters in action, that would be cool.

Actually, I don't mind double casting at all. My point is that star wars has an endless supply of characters and stories in that endless galaxy.

So let's meet some new ones. The clone wars proved that there is interest in developing larger stories.

In my mind, han solo had no "role" in this tale until mos eisley. And turning boba fett into his lifelong nemesis, limits the galaxy, rather than expands it. Not to mention the fact that over exposure of fett kinda ruins the mystique.

The way i see it is like this...it's not a massice coincidence they would be together. If you have high paying jobs for very specific work, you get the highly paid guys in there to try and get the job done before the others. Big bonus for a mission accomplished on top of the credits they would receive to just be on payroll.

I don't have any problem at all with Solo and Fett having a bit of history.
I was even entertaining ideas of a possible back story for the 2 of them back in the '80s.

I do, however, have a problem with Boba Fett being a central figure in the Clown Wars - I mean Clone Wars.
If that stays canon, the mystique is already ruined.

I had a huge problem with that too.....but like most things with Star wars, The Clone Wars calmed me down a bit. Their execution of storylines was so good, that I actually didn't mind young Boba. And I certainly loved what they did with Darth Maul.

Now, if we were to go back in time, I would have loved to see a new character as the clone template. I firmly believe in using new characters instead of bit players from the old movies. Anything to make the galaxy bigger is always the high road.

Re: Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One

I agree, though honestly, I would've been fine with using Jango Fett and just leaving it up to the audience to figure out what, if any, relation he had to Boba Fett. There was absolutely no reason at all for Boba Fett to have been in that movie though.

That's been my beef with Star Wars since ROTJ, really. And exacerbated by the prequels.
We're dealing with a GALAXY here! Yet everybody knows or is related to everybody else.
I didn't even know everybody in my own high school, much less the town I grew up in.
Yet everyone in the Star Wars GALAXY has crossed paths with everyone else.

And I never watched the Clown Wars cartoon - I mean Clone Wars.
The prequel story and characters just rub me the wrong way.
When Ben Kenobi referenced the Clone Wars to Luke in '77, I imagined some kind of slave revolt, like BladeRunner.
In fact, everything I imagined as a kid was vastly superior to the bile GL tried to pass off as Star Wars with the prequels.

I have hope for the new movies, though. Even if they're awful, they can't be as bad as the prequels.

Perhaps unrealistic but I always thought this monolithic evil Empire would be too proud to have to get help from outside sources, at least on any kind of regular basis. I always pictured Vader's summoning of the bounty hunters in TESB to be somewhat unprecedented and maybe even an act of desperation. Piett certainly wasn't happy about it.

If the ESB bounty hunters are used to find the missing DS plans (for whatever odd reason), we already know they will fail. Doesn't really look good for their track record. I guess Vader mercifully decides to give them another chance, in tracking down the Falcon? Maybe he kills Cad Bane when they fail the first time?

I agree. I was very disappointed at what the Clone Wars turned out to be. Essentially just a canned political rebellion being quelled by clones. They could've just as easily called it The Droid Wars for that matter. I was hoping for something a bit more than that.
