Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I'm a little concerned in that he mostly does "fun" scores.....

I was thinking the same thing. Very few if any were dark scores. When I think of Desplat his scores from Godzilla and Harry Potter (the later years) come to mind. Those are much darker in tone then the ones you think of when you think of Giacchino.

Either way, I'm sure it will be in my playlist rotation when it is released.

I'm not familiar with this composer, but SW games have had new music made for them for years and it was still very good. The SW Bounty Hunter score (Jeremy Soule) was really good for one. So I don't have any problem with someone other than John Williams.

Agreed, I've been thinking of video game examples, and Bounty Hunter is definitely a good one. Totally captured a Star Wars feel in the soundtrack.

It could just be my own sentimental value in it, but the standalone Shadows of the Empire soundtrack also fit in to the Star Wars universe IMO. I'm definitely not opposed to other composers.

I think one of the most stand-out atrocious parts of all the Star Wars scores for me was the use of the electric guitar runs done during the speeder chase on Coruscant in Episode II with Anakin, Obi-Wan and Zam Wesell. I heard that and was like, "WTF IS THAT DOING IN THERE?!"

Yeah I know. I remember thinking, is that an electric guitar?

if i'm not mistaken, they edited out the electric guitar in the final movie mix proper.
as i recall it's only present on the audio only score that was released

Now that I think about it, I don't remember hearing it in the movie. Thought maybe it was drowned out by sound effects or something.

Found a full set brand new opened box of the Rogue 1 action figures tonight. They were all lined up fresh on the peg. Tried to buy a few I liked. The price came up but all was good until the register started going banana on its own.....DO NOT SELL....DO NOT SELL....It was just ridiculous how much buzzing and noises the register was making. The person rather the thing who answered the checkers call was as rude as it gets and said you don't get these they have all been recalled and we cannot sell them and it grabbed them all and stormed off dropping them all over the place.

Hey I am just trying to pay good hard earned cash for an item you have out on your shelf. If it is out to early just say that and all is fine. No need to blow up and cause a scene all on your own. You would have thought I got the secret codes.

I told a friend it really was like what the movie itself getting the new figures/data plans to the rebellion except the rebels did it :)

Jheesh they are just plastic action figures and I only liked the Jyn anyway. Sabine was cool too although from a different star wars series. The rest were forgettable. Well the new droid was pretty cool too to be honest :)

Oh well, the 1st time I find anything new star wars wise in months and it is whisked away by that thing.

wow i never heard of that. i am a heavy pokemon card collector. my local walmart usually puts the new cards on the shelfs a week before the release date, its like clock work. never had a problem buying them early.

my walmart sucks so bad for star wars figures. i went to target last night actually, and their toy isle was bare too... i can't believe with all the star wars hype last year and now we got barely any toys... very disappointing

That happened to me at Target back when The last Harry Potter book The Deathly Hollows came out. They had it out on the shelves a few days (weeks?) early, but if you tried to buy it, they would get those warnings and then take it from you.

Its totally ridiculous. If its out on the shelves it should be up for grabs, it's their mistake if they put it out too early

I've not really been reading this thread, I'm trying to stay as spoiler free as possible

I have a small favor to ask. Since I'm not reading this thread 3-4 times a day, everyday, when we find out when Rogue One tickets go on sale will someone start a new thread in the entertainment forum?

I remember I read in the Force Awakens thread about the on-line tickets going on sale during Monday Night football. I didn't want to miss R1ticket pre-sale.

Why am I not excited for this flick?!?!

It bugs me that I LIKE everything I've seen, but something isn't hitting right. Years ago I may have said "they need to take this in another direction... get a Fincher or Tarantino type feel. ANYTHING after the prequels..."

But then I am one of those guys who LOVED TFA, and truly felt it had the feel of a Star Wars movie. WIZARDS AND KNIGHTS.

This is like "Platoon" or "Zero Dark Thirty"...

I may love it in the end, but reading the above post about presale... I realized I didn't even care if I missed out on them.

Of course I will absolutely buy presale, but maybe me and my wife... I can't see me trying to organize like with TFA and I for sure will with Episode 8

I enjoyed TFA but something felt off from the getgo...the opening theme felt like it had ZERO POINT ZERO energy and sounded like
it was done on a midi keyboard. I remember thinking: "I AM watching a SW movie, right?"

That and the lack of the 20th century fox logo / fanfare, might have influenced it too.
