Roger Ebert: The dying of the light

Sounds like yet another reason to just wait for DVD. So much for 3D juicing up the box office intake...

This 3D trend really angers me, especially when I hear everyone who goes see the 3D movie saying it was underwhelming and wasn't worth putting in 3D at all. People need to stop going to see them so we can get rid of this stupid gimmick.

There are 2 theaters where I live and the one closest (older theater) has crappy projectors and sound even without digital and i refuse to give them my patronage.
They are showing PotC and I really want to see it but I will wait for the DVD.

Besides I have a new 46" LED showing up next week, just need a blue ray player to go with it.

One of our theaters is brand new (2005 or so) and the other just spent a year being remodeled and is aimed at the local teen crowd so it has all the bells and whistles. As theater prices keep going up and theaters don't upgrade people are going to keep waiting for dvd. I'd rather wait to watch it with my home theater after buying a movie for 5.00 online or at walmart than 50.00 in a crowded theater.

I would drive 60 miles to see Cave of Forgotten Dreams in 3D if it was playing here. There are two theaters showing it and both of them are playing it in 2D.

I was particularly excited about seeing this in 3D. For those that don't know, it's a Werner Herzog documentary about the Chauvet Cave in France which is nearly inaccessible to people and has pristine 30,000 year old human cave art. This isn't some post 3D processing gimmick. It was filmed that way. Herzog has criticized the way filmmakers have utilized 3D, claiming the brain needs more time to process 3D images and quick-cut editing styles don't properly allow the brain to process that something is in 3D. He said his film, he was truly working to fully utilize the 3D element in all it's glory. I'd love to see what he's talking about.
