Robocop 3 with flight pack from Horizon

I had to modify the left arm cover to connect correctly to the gun arm, in studying stills I realized the kit was not made to do it right, since it didn't include a gun arm in the first place. No biggie. I also had to bend the front rail for the left arm cover to get it to fit the altered shape, but the metal cracked so I had to use epoxy to smooth the curve... now I gotta wait hours until it's sandable. SO close. Oh well, one more day won't kill me.

Let me recommend a VERY good Robocop resource (if you don't already know it):

The Robocop Archive is packed with info on the various suits (with pics and schematics!), movies and a whole lot more! Just for the suit alone, here's some info just on painting the suit:

"The RoboCop suits was painted in a variety of ways on different films. The first and third suits were very gray, whereas the suit in 2 tended towards a very plasticy blue. The suit in RoboCop:prime Directives is back to the original gray colour scheme (albeit seriously battle-damaged). The RoboCop suits are more green than anything when seen in real life - they're painted with a special photoreactive paint that registers metallic on film.

"The first suit had some problems and we didn't get them worked out until the middle of shooting. The RoboCop2 suit was more mobile. We knew what we were doing, it was more accessible, freer, I think it's better looking." -Peter Weller

Yes, the painting will be very challenging... I was planning on laying on a metallic silver/gray to start with (after priming), then highlighting with blues & purples mixed with the silver...

Sounds like a plan; when I painted a 1/12 scale Robocop figure, I used transparent blue and purple over the silver (which I tinted a slight bluegreen). Looking forward to your paintjob on this beauty!

You've made it look as if the gun came directly with the kit.
Been so long since I've seen 3. I'm guessing he had to take off his left hand and then attach that part. Which realistically, would have not really worked out....but then, most everything about these movies wouldn't have really worked out....except ED209....he would have worked perfect...:D

In real life ED209 won't be as easy to turn loyal as a puppy....

Last assembly today, and the very last bit perplexed me. The kit supplies tubes (actually super small springs that look like tubes) that will not fit over the lower thruster protrusions. So I heated them up a little, stuck sewing pins into them, cut the pin ends short with a metal clipper & drilled holes in the lower part of the flight pack. Tweezers & super glue did the rest.
Priming is next. Weather permitting.

Part 3 definitely has some completely silly stuff going on, but at least the rocket pack design fit in with the suit.
Its looking really good.
Can't wait to see how it looks painted.
I really want to get a nice Robocop and ED209 figures, even if prebuilt. And not cheap 20 dollar toys. Actual nice ones.

I was watching RoboCop (the series) last night and suddenly realized that the visor on this kit is way too flush with the surface of the helmet. Luckily this dawned on me before I glued it on permanently.
Back to work- I removed the piece & did some test shots with a black paper backing. I like it better, the recess is too deep now. I can fix that.....

Done. I glued in a curved bit of vinyl behind the opening. A small piece of clear styrene will be placed inside the front of the visor cavity after painting. Now I just need a nice not-freezing day to prime it.

Looking good.
I had surgery yesterday, my first time ever. Was a but nervous, as it was fixing a deviated septum, so in the nose.
As they are wheeling me into the operating room, I tell the guy, maybe it was a bad idea to watch so many Robocop reaction videos first.
It makes me also see, the way most of the scene being filmed in first person really hits home now.

If you are posting this, you lived. GOOD! Always live. We can always die another day. Yes, I'm a big Bond fan as well...;)

Lost a bit of blood in the last day, but its finally slowing down.
It makes you realize though. If you had gotten shot up, and then later on realize you had been human, be a little scary.
The movies touchec on that a bit, but probably could have gone much deeper if they had wanted.

I had an accident once where I lost more than half the blood in my body. Doctors said I should have gone into shock & died. Nice bedside manners. Yeah, RoboCop resonates.
