RIP Willie Mays

I'm old enough to have actually seen him play back in the 60's and early 70's. One of my earliest baseball memories is seeing him hit a homerun halfway up the scoreboard at Shea Stadium in New York. Considering he hit it to the opposite field that was really something.

In High School, my heart was all in on baseball. I was a Centerfielder...it was my home...i delighted in it. I made Varsity in 9th grade and it didn't take long for the "Willie Mays" comments to come pouring in from my coach after a few "basket catches", and let's just say i liked to cover a lot of territory in the outfield.Lol. My coach would always address me as "Hey, kid". Of course, that made me do my research on this man and i started patterning myself after his style of play. Looking back at all the players i generally had an affinity for, they all had that same style of play. He was the very best at what he did on the baseball field. He set the bar. I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed. What an incredible player he was.
