RIP Tony Todd

This is heartbreaking! I love his work so much!! Candyman, Final Destination, Star Trek The Next Generation, The Rock, the list is endless. If you haven't seen it, look up his cameo in a movie called Hatchet... f'in hilarious.

Rest in peace, sir...

Odd. I was just thinking about him yesterday. Bit spooky Maybe I can chalk it up to seeing something flash by in the news without consciously registering it.

What I was thinking was that he’s one of the most under rated actors around. Not a great deal of recognition outside of small fanbase, but absolutely brilliant.

My favorite, by far, was his portrayal of old Jake Sisko on the Visitor episode of Deep Space Nine. A beautiful episode that Todd carried on his back. I always thought it was a stunning performance.

As a horror fan, I knew him predominantly from Candyman, a movie I still hold today as the archetypal example of what A24 produces nowadays as "art-house" horror, and the better version of Nightmare on Elm Street. However, second to that, I remember him fondly from this episode of DS9, too. He always has recurring and minor parts in the Berman Star Trek series but this episode where he played an older, regretful, obsessive version of Jake trying to save his dad really showed the merit he had as a dramatic actor. I remember being choked up by that performance when I initially saw it. It's one of DS9, and all of Star Trek's canon, best episodes.

He was always one of my favorite actors. I loved the DS9 episode The Visitor. I started rewatching DS9 for the first time in probably a decade right after my dad passed and that episode tore me up. Still great though. I also loved his part in Babylon 5: Call to Arms.

He played a Starship captain as well
