Rincewind suit in progress (Updated 10-28)

Some pics from last night...I never got the armor finished and a few other little issues, but I ran out of time.

Gonna take a short break from working on it to get a fresh start again.

Wow you must've worked like a demon to get that suit ready to wear, I hope that your night went well.
I have a question for you oh great wizzard! What material did you cast your dreads in? I've been looking for a viable solution to replace my backer rod dreads but so far nothing I can get over here is suitable.

Between 8:30 Sunday morning and my post after getting home Halloween night I slept about 7 hours total. I was up at 6:45 this morning to go to work, but was only half conscious all day. I'll be trying to get some sleep tonight.

I made the dreads by creating a clay dread and suspending it in a piece of 1 1/2" PVC pipe that was maybe 1 inch longer than the dread (cut down each side so it was two halves). I poured PolyTek PlatSil 71-30 silicone around it and let it cure overnight. I then split the PVC back open and removed the solid silicone chunk. I cut the silicone down one side into the clay dread and removed it. After cleaning it out I tinted a bottle of PolyTek PolyFoam F-5 black (you tint the "B" part of the foam). Then I mixed 30g of foam by weight (15g "A" with 15g "B") and poured it in, capping it off with a wax coated Dixie cup with 4 small holes punched in the end to allow some air/foam mixture venting but still allow some pressure to keep the foam a little more dense.

some of the dreads I cast did not skin over as well as I wanted so I tossed them...temperature has a bit of effect on the resulting quality of the foam.

I bought all my materials from Brick In The Yard Mold Supply in Richardson TX...they are only 2 hours away from Austin so all deliveries get here overnight for standard rates. Plus, Mitch Rogers (the owner) is a super cool guy who loves SFX stuff and is really helpful to talk to. He has posted around 58 videos on YouTube showing the products they sell and how to use them...all stuff he shot and edited too.

Their website: http://www.brickintheyard.com/

I ran out of foam and resin both over the weekend and called Mitch 1st thing Monday morning, had the stuff by 9am Tuesday. He made sure to get it packaged and shipped immediately.

I wish I had taken more pictures of the creation of the suit...I'll try to take more once I pick back up with upgrades.

If you like, I can take a picture of the mold pieces. I did made a 2-piece plaster mold that supported 4 dreads, but that was for the latex-skinned version and my sealing job between the 2 halves was poor. Every time I poured in the thinned latex to make the skin it spread all around the seam and leaked out the bottom. Made way to much of a mess to ever be useful.

Any ideas how to save it? Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks for the info Rincewind. I thought that may have been the case. As with other options I've looked at it is just too expensive to ship to where I am. So the hunt continues.

suit looks great!!!! Did you end up wearing those shoes that night?!?!!? Something about them just doesnt quite jive... ...but everything else is awesome!!!!!
