Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

Yeah i used toggle bolt wings with some thin wood strips to build them up a little and some tubing for the round end.....Kristen's cast pieces will be the most accurate available i think.

Hi everyone, this is my first post ever here! I've been reading through this thread for the past few days and making notes and have finally reached the end here. I've recently been inspired at a con to try and create this costume as Rey is one of the best characters ever and her costume is so interesting. Thank you so much to everyone for being so helpful and offering up advice and this wealth of information. Due to this being my first attempt at a cosplay and limited funds I'll be going for something halfway between "good enough" and screen accurate (probably leaning towards good enough haha).
If anyone has created this costume in Australia and has any tips on store bought pants/shirt/fabric I'd be very grateful. I may end up splurging on either the shoes or staff as well.
Thanks for all the information here and I'm looking forward to seeing more people finish this excellent costume and hopefully getting there myself.

here's a look at my re-vamped goggles..now smaller and more screen accurate! I've also added a working light!

I finished the 2 bottles of the backpack today. I didn't have the accurate 3D pieces, so I try to make it from scratch. Here's a picture before and after.

For the bigger bottle, it's a real one. I used a vacum Thermos (350ml, 20cmX6cm diameter) and add a funel (Bialetti brand, 6cup, 6cm diameter) on top of it to give it the correct shape. I then glued a small piece of metal cylinder around it (because it was too small). I then sand the bottle and add some black paint to age it.

The small one is a cosmetic bottle that I found in grocery store near my home. It's a hair cream product. This brand is french, but I found the exactly same bottle in others brands (like L'Oréal, but I didn't bought this one because it was too expensive ^^). I emptied it and shape the bottle with mastic and polymer clay to make the 2 relief. I used polymer too for the top and hide the cap. For the pieces on the bottom I found old caps that look like enough acurate and glued it together. (I'll try to find others and put a picture of it there)

Looks awesome!

I've been looking for a metal cylinder to use for the smaller one that i can actually put water in! Until I find that I'll have to stick with my resin cast one.

Great job! Can't wait to see them on your backpack!

Thank you ! Yes, I've had the same problem. I bought a small vintage Thermos thinking it will be ok for this bottle, but it wasn't. It was way too big (almost as big as the 2nd bottle), so I tried to find a plastic one instead. This model is good, except that the bottom disformed a bit when I put it in the oven. But it's nothing too bad, this part is hide by the backpack. :$
It will be finish tomorrow I think.

Kendra, that looks great!

Im working on the backpack too. For my smaller bottle i used one from hand soap, i added a rubber gasket to the top to keep it tight so it can be used to drink from and added 2 other caps to the top. I may try some plastic putty to do the rings around the middle of it. Still needs alot more work.

I don't believe it was seen onscreen... it's shown in the visual dictionary and in some of the displays but unless I recall incorrectly she didn't have that extra wrapping on screen....I'll have to go back and look.

That being said, i have it. I used extra wrap dress fabric (it's the same stuff) and usually wrap across my chest on one side and then twist and wrap around the waist like the picture in the visual dictionary, and then lets the ends flow with my wrap dress:

Looks fantastic!!! WELL DONE!!

Proud to call you Sister Rey!

What did you use for your shoulder pad? Just curious how it compares to mine.

Thank you ! I used the same fabric as yours (I think, it's a coton carpet, but not for kitchen), it's this one :

I paint it first with raw sienna, then add a coat of raw umber. There were still part that were grey, so I put the shoulder pad in a small bucket filled with water and add sienna paint to it. I did it many times and then let it dry. Then I added another coat of the two color and sand it a bit. :)
