Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

Hey guys i hate to be a pain but ive been browsing all 75 pages of this thread trying to a find a complete list of all the fabrics and lenghs required but i just cant to pin point it, anyone have it to hand?

The fabrics list is on the first page. Most of it can be had from Dharma Trading.

Some of us have gathered fabrics we liked from different sources... so i guess I could just tell you what I got:

Cotton/Hemp Jersey Knit from Dharma Trading for the Tunic (I also used scraps of this for my Arm Wraps) bought 6 yd. Had plenty left over
http://www.dharmatrading.com/fabric...52-inch.html?lnav=fabric.html&hc_location=ufi

Hand Woven Fabric from Dharma Trading for the Head Wrap bought 6yd. Had almost none left over o_O
http://www.dharmatrading.com/fabric/cotton/handwoven-natural-fabric-55-inch.html

Crinkle Viscose from Ebay for the Wrap Dress. bought 4 meters.

Self tie Pallazzo Pants from Forever 21 for the pants (modified the legs)

Po-Zu Piper IV Brown boots (Screen Accurate) Make sure to remove the green Po-Zu tags on the sides!

British M37 Signals Satchel (cut down to be screen accurate) for the belt pouch

Top Grain Belt Leather for the belt...custom made

Leather wrist Cuff purchased for someone on Facebook. Can't recall whom

Green acrylic Bubble Storm Trooper Lenses from eBay for the goggles

Vaccum Formed TK Faceplate from Cuck Ruffing of Ruffkintoy for the base of the goggles

Rey 3D Printed Staff Kit from JJGriffin
http://www.therpf.com/member.php?u=93940

Wool Army Blanket in grey for goggles

White Pigskin leather from Tandy leather for the face of the goggles and for the staff sling attachment straps.

im sure there is alot more, but that's a good start.

For reference, here are a couple of pics of my progress:

NOTE: The Head Wrap fabric in this pic had been dyed a colour I didn't like. I have since overdyed it with RIT Taupe

I should also note that the wrap dress shown is NOT the Crinkle Viscose i linked to above. That fabric has yet to arrive. The wrap dress pictured is made of crepe cotton. Not bad... but not right. :-/

Thank you so much! This is a massive help! Also thanks for telling me where the other list was, i was going backwards through 75 pages so it would have taken a while

So I received my leather messenger bag from Amazon today, and I went right to work modifying it...

obviously I'm not planning to staple it together, LOL. I'm just figuring out the placement of things. I have some scrap webbing left over from my signals satchel conversion which i will use for this as well.

it isn't a bad base, after all. i was able to stretch the proportions to what Division6 called for: 15" high by 11" wide.

It's a split leather, so kind of thin. But at least it's leather and not vinyl. I'm thinking of using some rubbing alcohol or goof off to dry the leather out some and give it a worn and dry/weathered look. But that can wait till after construction is complete.

Looking good! The alcohol is a good idea...itll definitely work, you might even be able to lighten the color a little that way.

My wife just showed me this on facebook...we're friends with MrFett (Andrew) and she had caught pics of your build...think she just sent you a friend request.

I ordered 6 yd. And honestly I wouldn't get any less cuz it shrinks ALOT!

I folded it in half to cut my front and back panels for the head wrap shirt, and the width after washing when folded in half only left a margin of about 6". The length worked out to where I had enough to cut the front and back panels (both on the fold) and had enough left for the (very long) sleeves (also on the fold), and only had scraps left over.

Short Answer: get 6 yd. That way you know you'll have enough.

The texture is AWESOME once it's washed. It goes from that flat, see-through meshy thing to a nice bubbled texturized pile of goodness!

Don't use the tan RIT Dye...it comes out too "warm" and "peachey". that's what i did initially, but I corrected it with Taupe. THAT blends much better with the other fabrics and looks more correct.

Very VERY lo tech LOL

I took the chap stick tube and wrapped a full width piece of electrical tape around the back (covering the knurled part) and did about three or four passes. Then i took another length of electrical tape and cut it at about 1/8" width and wrapped that around in two parallel spots on top of the wider part I had just put on. I pulled very hard as i wrapped, so the edges of the tape would round out and it would look less like...tape. then I did the same with another band of 1/8" just behind the seam between the body and the cap.

I wanted to leave the cap free, because the light that i put into the tube is the twist on type and I wanted to be able to freely twist the cap to turn it on.

kristenhenry70,
You said you bought 4yds for the wrap (according to your ebay link, the 150cm on that fabric listing is about 58"wide like the stuff I purchased at bigboxfabricstore). Did you use the entire 58" width of your 4yds for the wrapdress, or did you cut it down horizontally? I bought a 10ft length of material and realized I need closer to 14, maybe 16ft, and thought it might just make more sense to split it down the middle lengthwise, then sew the ends together. (I'm just a novice cosplayer on a nearly-nothing budget, so the detail doesn't have to be as perfect as the great examples you guys have displayed this far.)

It hasn't actually arrived yet. But yes I was planning to split it down the centre and sew it end to end, as there is supposed to be a seam in the "loop" at her left calf anyway.

Has anyone addressed this seam yet? I'm trying to find out if it's just a 'patch' so to speak, or could it also be on the back?

Here's my genderbend Rey cosplay I'll be wearing on Saturday for Long Beach Comic Expo

I still need to hem the bottom of the shirt but I want to thank everyone on this thread. I know the wrap dress is a little lighter than what I wanted but I can always go back and dye it darker but for now, I'm happy =D

I added a piece from the top seam down.
Then added the sleeve over the top.

The bottom of the shirt is not hemmed.

The bottom of the shirt is not hemmed.

Well that makes it even easier... I really feel like the wrap dress needs to be darker but I don't want to mess with it since LBCE is this Saturday.... I'll toy with it after the weekend =D

Thanks =)

Yes... that's the raglan seam of the top. When I was making this top i debated whether or not to make the raglan style shoulder seams vs. the standard straight seams. but since its almost always covered by the wrap dress i opted to do a traditional shoulder seam.

goggle construction is slowly progressing.

What size toggle bots did you use for this? they look like they might be a better size than the ones I used.

I used the ones that have a 1/4" bolt from home depot. They do seem smaller than the ones you used. I don't think they actually have the perfect size, these are still slightly large, but the closest they had. I cut and shaped wood shim pieces to give them some body and additional length, then drilled holes in the toggle wings, notched out the shims so I can thread the cord through them and glued everything together.

I'm going to search for something to house the light in this weekend.

edit: your goggles are actually larger than mine, so these 1/4" toggle wings might work just right for you.

So a friend said he's seen the brackets used for the goggles and that they're clothes pins from the 80s or earlier
