Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

Hey all! I'm new to TheRPF and to cosplay, I'm really looking forward to having a Rey outfit by Dragon Con this year :) I've ordered some swatches from Dharma and have begun some research on sewing basic pants and tunics.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for first timers? I'm also toying with the idea of making the Rey outfit have natural/grey tints to it rather than brown like the movie. Is that a bad idea?

Thanks in advance, you guys, this thread has been a lot of help, even though I've only read up to maybe page 30 so far heh.

Hi,

Long time lurker, brand new member.

I've read almost all of this thread, but I can't find anywhere that anyone has compiled a sort of master list of all the pieces. I see the bag and the gloves and the fabrics, but has anyone put that all together and I've just missed the post?

My daughter, who's 12, absolutely adores Rey. She's done some easy Ghibli cosplays (Kiki, Arriette) before, but really wants to go all out on this one, and so I'm trying to help her get ready for Phoenix Comic-Con. I'll likely help her do the heavy construction bits and she'll do the sewing.

But like I said, is there a compilation post or do I need to keep reading the entire thread (I'm on page 36, I think)?

Thank you,

Wunderwerks

Woohoo! Fellow Rey for Phoenix Comic-com :)
I just took notes as I went, I can try to come up with a list for you to save your eyes. Might take me a little time though.

Hi SmokinBirdie425 :)

Found a pattern, that I'm using for her shirt.
Using D - http://www.simplicity.com/misses-plus-size-tunic/1461.html

I'm using Simplicity #1461 (D) maybe it's the same! :)

I was just in JoAnn's today looking at this! I'm not sure what size I'm supposed to be for these patterns but 10 sounds too large for me... I would need to find a way to size it down, since I couldn't find anything in store.

For a basic outfit:
Top Henley style opening without buttons or snaps
Wrinkled cloth wrap.
Loose Hiram/Capri type pants with straps to wrap around the legs.
Leather belt
Leather bracer (left hand)
Gauze wraps on the arms
Canvas pouch on belt
Boots
Staff w/ strap

Depending on her size you might be able to use the kids costume staff, it's a little over 48" long

If you are going full enchilada then you will have to add
Gloves.
Head wrap (long sleeve tee shirt)
Goggles with light
Extra wrap material
Back Pack
and even the big black bag

Yay PCC! :D I'm a game designer so I mostly spend my time at the Hyatt, but on Sunday my wife and kids come to the show and we spend the day walking the floor so she'll be Rey on Sunday. :)

Thank you! I think we're going to try to go somewhere in between. She's done basic cosplays before but wants to do something a bit harder this time. She's 5'5" so the kid's staff probably won't work. :(

We definitely want to do the goggles and head/face wrap, she thinks that's cool. And if I have the money I'll probably buy one of the staves that the RPF member is selling on Etsy, if not I'll probably have to build it myself, which I kind of suck at.

Thank you all for being so welcoming and helpful!

I'll be showing her this thread and we'll begin our building soon! :D

Hey, everyone!

Thanks for all the work and effort you have all put into the research of this costume! It seriously has been amazing following these posts. <3

I've been searching for a list of the dyes people have been using for the pieces of the costume. Can anyone compile up a list or say which ones they've used? I have a hard time finding the dye suggestions in the many pages of this thread! :p

Thanks so much!

The only dye I've used was RIT tan on my grey pants. I also bought RIT pearl grey that I may or may not use on the wrap with the RIT tan.

If you look at close up pix you can see they sewed it on like Kristen accept they also sewed it across the middle.

Top and bottom will hold it just fine.

For the belt loops on the back I used the shoulder strap that came with the pouch.

Just an FYI for anyone with an Academy (the sports store) nearby. I bought their brand compression arm wraps for $2 each yesterday. Not sure if all stores will have that sale, but worth a shot if you don't have your base for your wraps yet. Come in black and white. Should take iDye Poly well if wanted. I didn't bother, as I covered mine entirely.
