@kristenhenry70 looks great!! Really great job on the bag :)

Also, not sure if this was mentioned but I didn't see it on the last few pages of this monster thread: I just went on to Dharma to start pricing out my order and the Hemp/Cotton knit blend is out of stock. I e mailed them and said it's expected back in stock at the end of March. I asked if you can sort of pre-order and they said yes, they can ship it once it's back in stock. You just have to put "please place on HFA" in the comments section and they'll hold it. Be aware that if it goes beyond 30 days they will need your credit card number again.

I'm still looking around and comparing fabrics but I do really like the Hemp/Cotton blend for the shirt, I may do the pre order thing and wait it out while looking around in the meantime for something similar.

Whats the general consensus for the belts thread reinforcement/accents? Waxed thread, rawhide thread, or suede/leather cord? I'm leaning towards the waxed stuff, in some photos you can kind of make out the twist and shine you get with the waxed stuff.

I used waxed thread.

So, I found these pants at my local thrift shot for $2 (half price day, ya know). Twenty minutes of time later...voila. Need dyed and such, but I think that dog will hunt.

I've been dealing with this as well with the Hand Woven fabric for the head wrap. I just called Dharma, and she took a sort of 'pre sale' from me, taking my card info and saying that as soon as it comes in they will pull my six yards and ship it out to me. VERY good company to work with!

Yes, really great customer service and any questions I've had they respond right away! I'm looking to have this costume done for the beginning of June so I'm not in a rush.

Concerning the Hemp/Cotton blend, I read there was a little bit of shrink to it after it's washed, what has everyone's experience with this been? I'm debating whether I want to line some of the inside with the same fabric to make it look a little thicker but it may turn out to be OK after a wash. I'm just figuring out how much I'll need (although I will def be getting a little extra in case of an Oops and because it will be a long time before I can order it again if it quickly goes out of stock again!)

I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet, but how are people attaching the hip bag to the belt? Belt loops? Alice clips? Not the biggest thing to worry about, but I'm curious! I got my signal satchel last week and will probably start modding it soon (after it's had a nice long bath... 'cause it's pretty gross).

what I did was use some of the material left over from modding the signal satchel to make a wide belt loop on the back of the bag. i'll post a pic when I get home to show how mine is, but basically I took a piece of the front flap of the bag that was about 4" wide and about 4" tall and sewed it to the back of the pouch to make a wide loop to pass the belt through.

also, a quick update on the JJGriffin staff kit situation.... I just spoke with him again and he indicated that he hasn't got through his backlog of messages and threads here at the RPF yet, so if you are wanting a kit, contact him on Facebook. The kits are $150.00 each plus shipping.

From what I can tell is the there are 2 loops on the back of the pouch, as well as some sort of metal clip.
You can just see it in the scene of her running up the walker leg and grabbing here staff.

I was just about to ask.. has anyone attempted the goggles yet? Nice job!!! I'm in the process of making mine right now. I'll post pics in a bit.

Gross = awesome!! The dirtier, the more authentic! I've been dirtying the crap out of all my stuff on purpose. :p

These are natural lighting. This side is not tacked. (The side I tacked looks no different, but I just wanted to illustrate that straight wrapping will stick too, with the self adhesive bandages- I'm overly cautious so tacking...yes.) I also took one of the compression sleeve to illustrate the method. I dyed them with pearl gray and dark brown, but it came out a bit darker than I was aiming for. Use them EXTREMELY sparingly for lighter results. I thought I was being light handed, but the material of the compression sleeves soaked it up in ten seconds. They were white, and this is after about 20 seconds in the dye bath. Nonetheless, it creates depth in any gaps, so I left it that color.

This is super helpful!!! I've been trying to figure out how to do the sleeve wraps and this has been very useful =D
I'm putting together a genderbend of Rey and a lot of things are a first for me. I'm going to get the compression sleeves and also get some dye for the sleeves, the darker brown is a good idea =D

So I received my Signals Satchel today. I got it from http://www.worldwarwonders.co.uk. I got a good deal on it, 18 pounds + 8 pounds shipping. There are other bags on the site, but they are more expensive. The good thing about the site is he posts pictures of each actual individual bag so you can see what you're getting and prices them differently according to the condition they are in. And postage to the U.S. was only 8 pounds as opposed to the 20-25 most UK sites are charging. It took several weeks to get here though.

I wanted to know if it's OK to wash it because it's dirtier than it looks in the picture, and it smells! Has anyone washed theirs? I think I remembered someone saying they did. The edges are much stiffer than I anticipated, and I didn't know if there is cardboard in there making them stiff, and I didn't want to have it disintegrate on me if I put it in the washing machine. Thanks!

I've been airing out my signal satchel the past few days, but I had to take it in the other day because of Snowpocalypse. I used a little febreeze and stuffed it with dryer sheets. Tonight I lightly surface washed it with some warm water and Woolite, mainly to get some of the printed letters off. I'm really just trying to get it to smell slightly less musty, but I will be going back with some dye to make it look dirtier. I thought I read somewhere that using a Lysol spray might help because it kills what causes the musty smell. I'll be trying that next lol I'm sure others here have had some success with other methods so I'm all ears, too!

I dyed the pants today. They started grey so I just soaked them in RIT tan for a while. I am decently happy with them. I love the Hemp Jersey knit I got for the shirt (which as I'm sure you can tell is not sewn haha) but am not sure if I should dye it at all or just dirty it up a bit. The wrap fabric is awful, I knew it wasn't right when I bought it but wanted to see if I'd be happier after I played with the dye... I wasn't. I plan to order the Viscose Rayon from Dharma after I order the staff. I layed it all out just so I could see it, that's not the belt I plan to use. :)

Thanks for the suggestions! The Lysol makes sense. I was wondering about using a fine grit sandpaper to get the letters off.

Hello, new person here! I've secretly been following this thread for ages and it's amazing so thank you all for all your hard work!!

I went into town today and found these bandages at Boots (sorry if you're not from the UK) and i found them perfect for Rey's arm wraps. Even better than the Ace bandages in my opinion. They are a little frayed at the edges which adds a nice effect and they probably only need a little weathering and then they'll be perfect.

They're 'cotton crepe' bandages if that helps at all.

Also what is everyone using for their trouser fabric? I found the Dharma raw silk to be a bit too stiff and nubby and i'm struggling to find anything else appropriate.

Do these have compression like Ace bandages? Are they stretchy? I found that my arms started to go kinda numb with the ace bandages unless I loosened them up so much they looked bad. But maybe cotton ones would be better.

I did belt loops. Made them from a canvas strap I picked up on the surplus store.

Progress pic from me.

No dyeing done yet. The tabard/scarf is too tan (wish I'd gone for the more cream color, but either way I'm dyeing it, so hopefully it'll do), but super happy with how everything came out otherwise. Made the shirt by hand with no pattern out of a knit jersey cotton from JoAnn. Pants from the thrift store with some mods. Boots from Po-Zu. Made the belt and bracer myself. The belt is too large here on purpose. Will trim down once all parts made so that it fits correctly in full costume. Bag is US model with no mods so far - may or may not do that. If Rebel Legion will approve as is, will likely leave alone, as bigger is better for bags. ;) Will add ALICE clip, though.

Anyway, here's my start:

Staff is on order from JDMNinja and wraps I'll make later.

Hi,

Long time lurker, brand new member.

I've read almost all of this thread, but I can't find anywhere that anyone has compiled a sort of master list of all the pieces. I see the bag and the gloves and the fabrics, but has anyone put that all together and I've just missed the post?

My daughter, who's 12, absolutely adores Rey. She's done some easy Ghibli cosplays (Kiki, Arriette) before, but really wants to go all out on this one, and so I'm trying to help her get ready for Phoenix Comic-Con. I'll likely help her do the heavy construction bits and she'll do the sewing.

But like I said, is there a compilation post or do I need to keep reading the entire thread (I'm on page 36, I think)?

Thank you,

Wunderwerks

I wouldn't really say they have that much compression and they are super stretchy so you can always loosen them if need be. I find they look fine when they're not stretched too, they're hardly stretched much my pic from before.
