Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

I didn't really wear them for long and only had the wraps down on one leg, but it seemed like they'd stay put.

I also ended up getting the UK viscose, and will need to dye it a third time. I threw it into RIT Taupe first, then into Pearl Grey, which is exactly what I did with my crinkle cotton - but I don't think the Grey was strong enough, as it all washed out when I threw the fabric back into the wash.

I spent my free time this weekend (unsuccessfully) dyeing the viscose and working on and agonizing over the shirt. I'm pretty sure the placket/neckband on her shirt are a different fabric, and it looks like it's sewn on using a blanket stitch. I contemplated finding an appropriate fabric, said screw it, and just used the jersey knit. I did toy with some machine stitches to see if I could mimic the blanket stitch, but no luck. I just sewed it on with the machine, then hand stitched the back. Could've made it more accurate, but... sometimes my laziness overtakes my perfectionism, haha.

I did, however, decide that I wanted the ribbed sleeve to be close-to-accurate, and didn't want to mimic it with stitching, so I scoured Goodwill and ended up with this shirt to cut up:

The ribs are a bit too close together, but I think it'll probably work okay. I might poke around a few more stores to see if I can find something better.

I have been having the hardest time with the ribbing part. It's to the point of annoying [emoji53] but I'll get it eventually.

To me the ribbing always looked like the fabric had been straight stitched, the seam allowances cut to almost nothing, and then faced out, rather than faced in as you normally would do.

I did the ribbing by hand. I'll post some pics of my finished one and how I did it for anyone who wants.

That's pretty much what I did.

Hmm, I guess I can see that, especially towards the armpit. Just seems like a really odd way to make ribbing, so I thought buying a ribbed shirt/fabric made sense. I'll give it a try, though!

I was wondering what the "wrong" side of your ribbing looked like. I checked something similar in my collection of fabric and the ribbing of wide-narrow on the right-side was narrow-wide of the wrong side. If this garment does not work that way you might check that with other possible finds.

I'm about mid way through my staff build and I went to buy some wooden poles for my build. Most of the poles at HD had a warp so I decided to go to my local metal supply house. I found the perfect solution. It's a 72" black anodized 1" aluminum pole and the best part it's only $7.

I hope that you get the viscose worked out. I had good luck with mine, which I was grateful for as it was my first time. The headwrap fabric was more trouble for me, but I finally dyed it to a color that I like.

I still can't post pics of the sleeve I did yet, but I will a little later tonight. I think it turned out very close to the original, which I was happy for, especially as I made two of them on my practice fabric and three out of the hemp/cotton blend. (Boy, I'm glad I bought extra. Enough to make TWO shirts I think!) and also studied screenshots for a little longer than I should have:rolleyes

I also found an awesome tutorial for a woman's henley shirt placket that can be modded just a little to come out exactly like Rey's. I'll post a link to that; it totally saved my butt!

Are you able to post your sleeve pics?

Here is the Henley tutorial I used for the placket. I didn't add any snaps or fasteners, I simply sewed the placket closed along the seam line once I was finished. I left a 3 1/2" opening at the top.
Here are some of my reference pics I used to finish the Henley.

I will positively post pics tonight, sorry for the delay. There will be close-ups of the Henley and the sleeve.

Hello everyone ! I've recently went to the french comic con in Paris, and I've made an update of my costume. I've added another piece of wrap dress in the front, and replace the clips on the goggles (by 3D prints, made by my friend @T5H). I've weathered a bit more my costume (mostly the wrap dress) with textured sand paint. Here is the result :

REY & BB-8 2.jpg 14591726_862944253840074_2306095691919854025_n.jpg 14681864_1276067695776705_8283704161921151476_n.jpg 14729233_793662220774969_7271155211462550779_n.jpg

That was my first trooping with the Rebel Legion and 501st at an event. Again I want to thank everyone here for your hard work. Many cosplayer asked me how I've made my costume, and I tell them everytime to go watch this thread, because it is so amazing and full of information ! (and an amazing community too !)
I've been asked by the Rebel Legion to be part of the LCJ(Legion Costume Judge) for Rey some weeks ago. That was a huge surprise, and I've said yes of course. I'll try to do my best (even if I disagree with some standard :unsure but I can't try to change that, it is decided now) and I'll try to help as many people as I can, trying to tell them some advise that I've found here from many of you :)

One last pic... family portrait:p

This may have been answered a million times and I'm sorry if it has, I haven't been around since getting my approval inJune. Now that I've been on 10 troops, I'm officially over my arm wraps. I'm using Johnson and Johnson bandages, dyed and held on to my arm with fashion tape. It looks great and would work for a con but since I'm trooping 2-4 times a month I'm going through wraps like water. I tried sewing them to a compression sleeve but I haven't been able to get the desired, tight look. Maybe I'm not using the right method of sewing. Any advice on something that lasts more than one time but will stay up without rewrapping would be ever so helpful!

Kendra, that looks great! I'm not in France, but I hope I can see that in person one day! I'm going to ask you for help when it comes time for weathering.

I tried the Johnson and Johnson bandages at first too, but they were too uncomfortable especially with my compression sleeves. I ended up using some other bandages that another RPF member gave me. They also sent me the link to them too. Let me find it...

I use these now, and they work like a dream!

Pics from last night's trick or treating with the new arm wraps on. Some of the kids ( and a few of the adults) really went nuts when they saw us. A few took pics and one group of kids screamed "it's Rey and Kylo Ren!" and started going crazy when we opened the door.

Ran out of time, so we didn't get a chance to re-iron in the wrap dress pleats. Still needs more weathering......it looks too clean to me. Also need to find some maroon fabric for the staff wrap.
@ForceAfterCoffe

Wraps in the pics are these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/252331465740?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

which I think are the same material as the ones linked above, just a different brand. They were on her for about 3 hours and we didn't have any issues with them moving, but I wrapped them tight. No sleeves underneath, but still need to test them out for long periods of time.

Here are the long-awaited pictures! I hope these help.
.....
Each fold is 1/4"

I'm trying to figure out how exactly you made the folds/ribs (sorry if it was mentioned before!). Did you do it the same way Kristen did, where the "seam allowance" is what's seen on the outside of the shirt, is trimmed, and curls under after it's washed? Or is yours not cut at all, and just sewn down again through the middle of the fold?
