Revolution

I caught the first three episodes on-demand. I like it so far, plot holes and all.

I also liked a few nods to other shows along the way. My favorite was Milles and Charlies alias's to the rebels when they showed up at the Bennigins base ... Stu Redman and Fran. :thumbsup

Yeah, but then you get some conman actor who pretends to be the one after he finds an abandoned USPS truck, leads an insurrection and screws Olivia Williams and fights off a militia.

:popcorn

The chances of that making itself into a movie, is as high as the chances someone making a movie about the whole world flooded and a few survives tries to find the last dry land with the help of a Merman and a little girl with a tattoo.

Definitely covers the entire US. I imagine it'd have to be the world, or I'd think countries would send help or people to investigate. After the first few planes fell out of the sky, they'd figure out the power outage and then use sail or steam or something else. There's no way the world would completely ignore the US after such a bizarre event such as electricity being suppressed.

I agree, you'd think that after 15 years if nobody else was affected some other country would have sent someone to look into what was happening in the States. But it seems to be me that it would be a bit of a stretch for the power to be knocked out all over the world, of course given that we don't know what caused who's to say that it couldn't have blanketed the entire Earth but it just seems like a bit much to me.

Speaking of the rest of the world, I wonder how the Militia, assuming that it's a nation wide organization, is handling the rest of the world, namely Canada and Mexico. I'm not sure that we'd have much of a problem with Canada but Mexico, esp. with the Cartels, might be an issue. I wonder if the US in Revolution has shrunk or grown any? Would/could the Militia stem off any invasions by similar groups from Canada and/or Mexico and likewise are they capable and/or interested in expanding their influence north and south of our borders?

so, some new info on the pendants today. we now know there are 12 of them and you need them all to turn the power back on.
we also know that the kid that miles and the others captured is the son of the black guy.

i feel some of this episode was terribly written. what stood out to me was when they were on the train, and the girl forced the door open, having the crossbow on her back, and then running at the black guy with a knife (who had a gun). Thats a good idea, thought noone ever. its not like she attacked him from behind she just directly ran at him through the whole car while he was waiting for her.

also, it took them 15 years to think about the idea of using a steam train, but then they get it ready in 24 hours. yeah that seems legit.

Monroe finally knows about the pendants too.

The more I watch this show the more Charlie annoys me. I still like the show and really want her to become something more than a brat, but I hope they change her....quick.

It seemed Charlie put on about 20 lbs since the previous episodes. Probably why she's so bitchy at the end...time of month and all...

We know they have been prepping for the trip for a while because it took them quite some time to clear all the tracks. It takes a day to prep the train for the trip, not to restore it from a static display.

still doesnt explain why they didnt use it in the last 15 years. and dont tell me they did, because the guy said they just cleared the tracks.

I am a few episodes behind, but I am struggling to keep watching this show. I want it to be better, but it just has not gripped me yet.

Pretty sure that the show's opening graphic makes it clear that the outage is world-wide.

Not quite - because the graphics cut out, just as North America goes dark. But it looks like there are still lights in western Europe. Plus, the narrative says "The lucky ones were able to escape (or, make it out of) the states", which would leave you to believe that other countries, oustide of north/south America, were ok.

If the entire world went dark, you could at least write it off as a problem with the earth's geo-magnetic field. But localized over N/S America? That's a lot of wizadry at work, right there.

Now, to gripe about last night's episode - why the hell didn't Miles just punch the loader in the face, and de-couple the engine from the rest of the train? It would have traveled down the track, destroying the engine and probably the track with it. Danny would have still been alive, and this crummy show could have come to an end.

Instead, I think it's just a vehicle for the actors from Lost, to collect an ill-deserved paycheck.

That's not at all what happened. They've clearly been working on it for a while, and suddenly the general guy wanted to get the kid to Monroe a lot faster since Miles was after him. Also, I'm sure that Monroe didn't form up his militia and get it to have the coverage and power it had in the first six months. That takes TIME to form. It might have taken years to even FIND a steam powered train that he could start up, and years to find someone who can work on it.

My take (and one opportunity they missed) was this train was either on an enclosed track (say, the steam engine at Six Flags over Texas) or actually in a museum or something totally separated from main train routes.

Now imagine trying to set-up and lay new tracks or whatever to get it finally on main routes.

Now, what the engineer *should* have said was "That train never should've left the museum." or something similar, to indicate it wasn't in service.

I don't find it too hard to believe it taking 15 years. For one, no one knows how long it took the militia to establish itself and move forward after it stabilized its land grab. Plus the lack of decent communication, etc, etc which they're essentially starting all over by re-learning almost everything.

There is a train up north of us that is an old steam engine the runs daily but i'm not sure if the track it goes on is enclosed or if it could go onto other routes. A stretch would be that they found a museum with a track near a main line and put just enough track to get it there.

That would work if they had a way to apply the brakes to the train cars (and enough time to slow them down). Otherwise they just crash into the wreck of the locomotive a few seconds after the explosion.

Without the engine pulling, they'd slow down pretty quickly - those things were heavy. Plus, the tender would take the brunt of the crash. It would definitely be survivable.

They'd only need enough time to get to Danny and then jump off the train. Heck, those two jumped off when it was chugging at full speed.

I believe it says the lucky ones escaped the "cities", not the states. In the pilot, there was an extended narrative. It said the lucky ones left the cities. The others died in them. Or something along those lines.

It might have taken years to even FIND a steam powered train that he could start up, and years to find someone who can work on it.

It takes very specialized knowledge to work on steam locomotives. I visited a group that was just finishing up work on the 765 in Ft. Wayne. Not many people today know how to maintain these things. And they need to be completely rebuilt every 1000 hours of service or something like that. The steam tank is essentially a bomb waiting to explode. It creates tremendous pressure, and if a seal fails, .....

Most steam engines are housed in small yards that do have access to the mainlines. Often times, there are big train shows, and they bring in the more famous ones from all over.

From the looks of the "explosion" after Miles threw the wood off the train, no one on that train was in danger. It would have rendered the locomative useless I'm sure, and probably derailed the cars, but they would have survived.

I was so looking foward to this show, then when I actually watched it, I was sorely disapointed. It just seems cheese to me, I'm not sure it will make it past the 1st season.

I finally watched this weeks episode. At the end after they jumped off the train I was thinking: What is on the other side of the tracks that made them decide to show a relatively fresh paved and painted road?

So 12 pendants. Are they all going to be conveniently in the area or are they going to go to California and other states?

I don't know, I'm kinda liking it.. Yeah lot of holes etc, really wish they went full SteamPunk.. Been looking around for a Militia Sword and what it would be like to use.. Apparently, by this screenie, not crash hot as it seems to be hurting the actors.. :lol
