Reverse Engineering Hinge on Metal Arm / Elbow Brace

Does anyone have any experience with implementing an arm hinge into an armor piece similar to the hinges found in metal arm and elbow braces? Like these:


I'm trying to articulate a wearable Iron Man arm (Mk III) and am having trouble coming up with a low profile hinge solution. I haven't been able to find good enough pictures or diagrams showing how the above hinges work.

I have used a method very similar to this on both of my suits and it works great, is very slim and comes apart nicely for storage and assembly. Good Luck!
